The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles

They’ve already got most of my money and that’s really not clear on the site. I bet it was discounted too and I missed it because I went for the 5/6 bundle.

I’ve looked at the 11th Doctor Chronicles bundles, and I don’t think you get Broken Hearts with any of them.

It’s fine, I’ve bought it separately. It was only 8 quid so I can live with it but it needs to be my last expenditure for a while.

Broken Hearts is amazing and I get why it’s separate (as said above, production stuff and the writer pitching it after everything else was wrapping up) but as you said it’s not clear on the website what’s going on with it :sob:

At the very least it should have been included in the bundle and marked clearly as download-only.

When I got my CDs, even after deliberately choosing to buy Broken Hearts, I was confused why there was no Broken Hearts CD lol

Coming back to the range after a little break with…

The Yearn - 7/10 (No Spoilers)

A perfectly solid story!

A ‘base under siege’ story is very much classic Doctor Who, and it’s a story concept that always feels like it fits perfectly wherever it is it ends up being, here being no exception. Our core cast are nice, kept to just three extra characters which lets everyone have time to get uniquely characterised.

The threat itself is pretty solid, and I really like the ties to the mythology of the peoples, and the mechanics of how they function. Plus the imagery that’s used here is really great, ‘psychic energy panthers’ is just a really really fun image.

Also I loved the romance we get in this episode, the character dynamic is sweet, always love a bit of queer rep, and the lampshading classic who companion’s exits is also funny.

That all said, I think this is the 11/Valarie story not to blow me away. It’s good don’t get me wrong, but it’s definitely ‘solid’ not ‘stunning’. When that’s the worst thing I can say about a story though, especially looking at the rest of the range… what’s the opposite of damning with faint praise?

Yeah don’t worry, that’s the least good episode, the rest are all better than this!

My main problem with it is I found it really hard to understand the voices of The Yearn

Used a voucher to buy the first volume and I listened to the Inheritance with my Mum. I’m really excited to get the next ones.

I would argue Didn’t You Kill My Mother is worse, but still the only two episodes of an 14 episodes series (15 if we count that short trip) I don’t like too much.

What are people on about here? ,“The Yearn” is the best story of that box-set :+1:
5/5 :star: and a  from me :slightly_smiling_face:

“Curiosity Shop” is the Eleventh and Valarie story I’ve rated the lowest (though still a 3,5/5 :star: )

That’s actually one of my favourites from the series.

Curiosity Shop is well done, but not enjoyable.

Dudman tries, but a lot of his impressions don’t sound anything like early Doctors. This, and Broken Hearts, are too “Drama-y” for my tastes.

Fun Fact:

Broken Hearts was the last recording for the whole Eleven & Valarie series.

Yes that is exactly what is “wrong” with those stories.
Still thought they were good but not mind-blowingly so as I’ve seen people react to them :slightly_smiling_face:

I never thought his impressions were meant to sound like them, they were meant to sound like the Eleventh Doctor doing impressions of them.

Which to me they definitely did.

Although I have to admit I didn’t care for Curiosity Shop all that much on first listen when I went back through the whole run as a binge recently it really, really worked.

I have only heard the Valarie stories the one time.
A repeat must surely be in order soon :slightly_smiling_face:

But even then they don’t have enough similarity to be able to identify which Doctor it is supposed to be.

If it works for you, great, but it didn’t for me.

In the context of the full series, Curiosity Shop/Broken Hearts are needed, but over the past few years I have developed an eversion to “High Drama” audio works.

For me, I can appreciate what Curiosity Shop is going for, but in practice it feels overlong and doesn’t quite work. Broken Hearts is excellent though, my favourite of the series.

I’m listening to it at the moment, and it’s working for me!

They’re definitely off impressions, but that feels intentional, and I can still definitely tell which doctor each impression so far has been intended to be (at first I wasn’t sure it was intentional or I was just making things up, but hearing this one now I absolutely get it)

It is quite funny to think about all the thought that must’ve gone into them though, listening to Dudman’s Smith’s Eleventh Doctor’s Fourth Doctor
