The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles

Well deserved

I’ve been thinking about listening to The Skies are Watching too! Glad to see it’s got some recognition. The BBC Limelight collection is great.

This is pretty easily my highest rated set on the guide (I’m pretty sure, at least of this length)

Two 7/10s as the lowest rated stories, and one of those was a prologue

Two 10/10s which I just absolutely adored, including some of my new favourite Cyberman and Dalek stories

My new favourite companion

My new favourite Eleventh Doctor season (hell, new favourite ‘season’ of NuWho???)

Also I will do reviews, but given it’s 1am, leaving it for now

The Last Stand of Miss Valarie Lockwood - 10/10 (Spoilers)

God, where to even begin.

Lets start at the beginning, I guess that makes sense. Eleven bringing the daleks to the Darinthian System, trying to use the virus to wipe them all out in a final, last ditch attempt only for it to fail really sets the tone of this story incredibly. Roanna finding the wedding rings and Valarie asking her to marry her despite knowing her fate, despite the world collapsing around them, it’s just beautiful. The fact they wear the rings despite the blight as well, their love being more important than the pain, the proposal including asking her to divorce her to protect the web of time, it’s perfect.

And then we move on to two other last stands, Eleven locking Valarie and Roanna outside the TARDIS as he goes to confront the Daleks, knowing that his success would ensure his death, and Roanna’s death holding off the daleks as Valarie makes it to Tim. I love the bit we get of Valarie and Eleven communicating after Roanna’s death as well, just before he’s set to be sent and killed. It really does fully convey that hopelessness, you can’t see any way that the daleks could be defeated here, other than Tim’s plan, killing himself to give the surge to Mrs Hendricks instead of the blight.

I also love how again this is building on the lore established in the eleventh doctor’s TV stories, an exploding time machine being something that can allow paradoxes to function without issue, and the way it’s used here, instead of following the plan having Valarie be the one on the phone, essentially causing her mother’s death, having her then come back to the start of the story and unmake the deaths of Roanna and The Doctor, giving them knowledge upcoming events so they can take The Doctor’s plan and make it work. God, it’s so good.

And once again, one of my favourite parts of this series is when the characters can just sit and talk. Valarie and Roanna’s proposal the second time round is just as good, especially with the added weight, the doctor and valarie’s conversation about her doing what she had to, especially with this being a pre-Day of the Doctor Eleven, still feeling all that Time War guilt, still choosing to ignore it, it just works brilliantly here, and Eleven taking this Valarie back to Chicago, the fact it means that at least one of her can get the happy ending she deserves, and how it means she can still live her life with both Hayden and Roanna. It’s so so good.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that ending. Eleven calling the daleks to let them know that the predator of the daleks is on the prowl, leading into the next story. just, god, everything about this story I absolutely love.

Victory of the Doctor - 9/10 (Spoilers)

Just an absolutely beautiful cold open, what’s not to love about a wedding held by a dalek (also very funny that it’s the second one in less than a year given DWM’s comics).

I also really like how this glosses over how Eleven’s plan works this time where it didnt’ in the previous series of events. We dont’ really need to know how it did, we don’t need to see those events play out very similarly again, we just need to know that he did, and to see the plan working itself out.

Generally this ends up just being a really really fun romp, the lead trio making new threats for the daleks to face, constantly taunting them, but slowly loosing ground until the daleks are winning.

We’re faced with a similar scenario to the previous story, the daleks seemingly in control again, especially with the Roanna and Valarie turning on Eleven due to the combination of his’s plan failing, and the dalek essence taking control of the three of them…

And then we get the reveal that just makes this all so fun.

The fact that the daleks didn’t get out of the device and are in fact still trapped in a pocket universe is a twist that I’d seen coming, but it didn’t make it any less satisfying when it was revealed, and the second twist, that this was all a ploy to allow Eleven’s original plan, using the Darinthian Blight against the daleks, is something I didn’t see coming but does just work so so well, especially with how it once again ties this story right back to the beginning of the series. I also like how it also explains why we’ve not seen much of the new dalek paradigm, or the dalek prime minister since 7A.

Then we once again let our characters sit, we get Valarie and Roanna’s actual wedding, we get Eleven being a bit socially awkward at giving a best man speech, we get Valarie’s decision to leave, Eleven’s to take a bit of quiet time. It’s a beautiful bow put on the top of what’s probably my favourite series of Doctor Who I’ve seen or listened to

I love love love that Valarie gets a happy ending. After the rest of the series makes her go through so much pain and suffering she gets what she deserves: joy and love and happiness

I adore that there’s now a subset of Doctor Who stories that end in a big gay wedding. This one and River Song: Friend of the Family!

What a superb start to the series! Dudman is flawless, Valarie shines right away and the social commentary is poignant.

9/10

The Inheritance is a fantastic debut for Valarie Lockwood and a strong start to a new era of Eleventh Doctor audio adventures. It blends thrilling action, compelling character work, and sharp social commentary into a gripping, emotionally charged story.

Safiyaa Ingar and Jacob Dudman share an instant chemistry, setting up a partnership that promises great things ahead. Lara Lemon’s Arabella Hendricks is a formidable antagonist who leaves a lasting impact, and the story’s central concept—a money-based parasite that punishes greed—is both clever and thematically rich.

With high stakes, powerful performances, and a compelling new companion, The Inheritance isn’t just a great introduction—it’s a great story in its own right.

The House of Maskas has a strong setting but the base idea and overall story is a bit generic. It’s not a bad follow-up, but it is the weakest story of the first set.

7/10

The House of Masks is a solid second outing for the Eleventh Doctor and Valarie, offering a strong setting, a compelling mystery, and further development of their relationship. However, the story stumbles in its final act, with a resolution that feels less satisfying than its setup.

Valarie continues to impress as a companion, and her dynamic with the Doctor is developing beautifully, making up for some of the weaker narrative beats. The growing sense of an overarching season arc also adds an extra layer of intrigue.

While it doesn’t quite live up to its full potential, The House of Masks is still an enjoyable adventure that reinforces why this new era of Doctor Who audios is one worth following.

The End is one of those timey-wimey stories that require focus and make you think, and I feel that the time loop idea here is a really strong one, while also allowing both the Doctor and Valarie to shine.

8/10

The End is a bold and gripping finale, delivering a perfect balance of tension, emotion, and intricate time-wimey storytelling. The time-loop structure is cleverly executed, the monsters are genuinely unsettling, and the emotional stakes are sky-high.

Jacob Dudman and Safiyya Ingar give some of their best performances yet, selling every moment of fear, determination, and heartache. The supporting cast is strong, the sound design is top-notch, and the overall experience is one of relentless suspense.

Ending on a thrilling cliffhanger, this story cements Geronimo! as a must-listen for fans of time-twisting Doctor Who adventures.
