I’m still using my PS3 as a Blu-ray player
I find these good for protecting my collection
Nice. I’m a PC man myself. The three consoles I listed where just from a very basic google search.
Same, and also VLC with the codes to make it able to read Blu-Ray. Portable external USB Blu-Ray drives are reasonably inexpensive, I think mine was about $30 USD, I’d imagine similar exists at equivalent prices converted to whatever currency one might use. (The drives point was more general, only “Same” was the reply)
I’ve got VLC, but the version I have doesn’t play Blu-ray. Was using the PowerDVD 14 that came with the drive, but it stopped working. So now I use VLC for DVDs and Leawo for Blu-rays.
Used Leawo at one point, but didn’t like that I couldn’t get the disk menu. The fix for VLC is fairly easy, just download two things and put them in the right place in the directory, but Leawo does work well enough.
I haven’t even been able to get into the Season 25 set yet and I’m chomping at the bit for the next announcement already. “Word on the street” is that it’s going to be Season 7 which sounds like a godsend restoration-wise.
Though with the last two releases I have seen complaints with the restorations due to some issues typically associated with AI tools, such as the detail being blasted off including making people’s skin look unnaturally smooth in an attempt to “clean up” the image. This has supposedly only been an issue with the last two releases and while I didn’t personally notice anything wrong watching through Season 15 earlier this year it is disappointing if this is the direction or standard moving forward, especially if this is the last round of restoration most of these stories end up getting or if future masters would be built from this (as many are already built from the DVDs).
It’s also a bit annoying in the sense that otherwise the bar has been so high with these sets and very consistently at that. Even in terms of restoration itself because where film material survives it looks great and the colour work done on Pertwee stories have been like a new lease on life for them, you’d never know the PAL colour prints were ever missing.
Had most of the classic Series on DVD as well, but I have to admit I was quickly tempted to switch most up for those Standard Edition Blu-Rays. Mainly because it’s helpful to save some space, and also I got really curious about all the extra Material. I haven’t really watched any of them as yet, but I am planning to do it at some time. The Thought of having the whole Classic Series as one range and on physical media is great (even if some of them might just are presented by Recons (then again, as long as we don’t do another Underwater menace Situation, I am only happy to have some).
In terms of which I own? All minus the SE from Season 2 (hoping I can be able to get around to buy this soon, having one of the 60s Seasons will save a lot of space for me!)
As someone who didn’t have a DVD collection I don’t even think about how much space people should be saving, especially with the standard editions! It must be incredibly satisfying to see it all slowly condense.
Used to barely even get to Pertwee on the first shelf. Now it reaches The Key to Time. Further condensing was the limited edition series 1-13 Blu-Ray set, and I have all of TV Who from AUC to The Power of the Doctor on about a shelf and a half (with the 60th coming in in a couple weeks).
I imagine it’s as satisfying as I felt when I upgraded my old VHS collection to DVD. It’s amazing to think that you can now fit an entire season of Doctor Who into the same space as an old VHS tape.
I also can’t wait for the collection to be no longer a mix of LC recons I downloaded and burned from Dailymotion, burned DVDs from DVR recordings, officially released DVDs, and Blu-Rays.
It would…if I was getting rid of the DVDs…
I still have all my VHS in the loft.
The most beautiful photo I have ever seen
True, but it is a mess, and the uniformity when it becomes all Collection sets will be nice. (With a 27th that has the TV Movie, Curse of Fatal Death, and Scream of the Shalka among some other Wilderness era stuff?)
Seems to be a leak!
This looks so good! Love the Cover Art!!
A leek? I see no leek! And this isn’t the Doctor with the decorative vegetable!
