My first one looked like this:

And we had one in school too.

But no disc drive like those ones. You loaded the games in via cassette:

AI tells me: "[…] According to the search results, posts on Bluesky are unofficially called “skeets”, which is a portmanteau of “sky” and “tweet”. However, the official term used by Bluesky is simply “post”. Interestingly, the platform’s CEO Jay Graber has strongly disapproved of the term “skeet”, despite its popularity among frequent users.[…] "

Personally, if I hear ‘Skeets,’ I think of Booster Gold’s robot companion.

Interesting how much excitement there is in this thread. When I joined Bluesky a while back, it was actually for political doomscrolling. Mastodon was just too positive (but I also stayed on Mastodon). Probably not interesting for most of you to follow me. Mainly reposting left-wing political and AI stuff. But I will try to follow the Doctor Who-related stuff more.

Ooh, BBC Micro!

Think the CoCo didn’t get to where you were, but the Dragon 32/64 were clones of it, so over in the UK, what I had would’ve been close to this:

I actually didn’t have disk drives for it either, and was also using cassettes.

Don’t have one any more. Kinda wish I did.

I’ll do you and @SweetAIBelle one better!

My first computer looked like this (it was this exact MacBook model, back in 2011):

(Yes, I used to be a major Apple user, but I have come to my senses since…)

My computer after the Coco 3 looked like this:

MacintoshLCII-big

(And yeah, left Apple a long time ago.)

Wow I don’t know why but I thought you were at least in your mid-thirties

And what do you mean “come to your senses” - I am 100% an Apple products person, they are the best :tada:

oh that means you’re only a year or so older than me! I joined facebook and tumblr at about the same time, but for a long time my only internet activity was on the Warrior Cats Wiki lmao

I have revealed my age here before, but no, I still have one and a half years to go before I hit sweet 30! You’re not alone though, as most strangers usually guess my age to be somewhere around 32-35 (and they guess my wife to be in her early twenties, but she’s five years older than me—it’s flattering to her, though!). I guess it’s because I generally act slightly older than my age, and I always have. I blame my parents for my responsible upbringing!

To keep it short, I find Apple products to be overpriced and overrated. Don’t get me wrong though; I loved that MacBook and used it extensively for six years until it finally broke down and I had to purchase a new one. I was studying at university at the time and didn’t have a lot of extra cash, so I had to buy a cheaper Windows laptop, and I haven’t returned to Apple since.

I do agree they are overpriced and were, at least, underpowered. Apple was pretty innovative, back in the day. As much as you hear about them ripping off a good deal from Xerox, they invented a lot to go along with it.

I do feel like people look at the wrong person in the history of Apple, though, because Woz was a genius and Jobs was a salesman, and they went with Jobs.

But getting something other then a Mac was cheaper, so I bought an eMachine with Windows, turned it into something entirely un-eMachine-like, and gradually moved to Linux…
