The Bencehun_12 thread, you could say the definitive article

Hello Whovians and fanfic writers! I got a proposal for y’all! I am looking for fanfic writers (including me) who can share ideas and pitches about serialised book adventures with a Doctor. I got several pitches I would like to share.

I got several ideas for the Ninth, Thirteenth, Fifteenth and a potential Sixteenth Doctor. Ninth Doctor could have a run with a new companion BUT they clash out/fall apart by the end of the series because the companion doesn’t want to travel with this Doctor or vice versa.

The Thirteenth Doctor could have a companion who she can relate more. Someone with a similar background story as The Timeless Child but in a grand scheme. She could travel with them alone or WITH Yaz.

The Fifteenth Doctor has a lot of potential because his era feels very empty and you could do so many stuff with him. You could stick with gods but you could put him in a different environment and have fun with that.

And the Sixteenth Doctor who could be anything. We possibly not going to see this Doctor until 2027/2028 so why not make it our own, make something special, something unique. Doctor Who needs more prose because it is going into a hiatus.

We already got plenty of audio dramas from Big Finish and some comics too but the world of prose is very empty and I think this is the perfect place to start it. So stand with me. Please if you are interested in this message me.

The plan is to have 12 serialised stories each ranging between 80000 - 120000 words and coming out in segments for a 2 month period. If you are interested in that please don’t hesitate and message me. The stories would be uploading on A3O. Thank you for reading this!

I know this is probably a dire, amateur attempt but we need to start somewhere and someone has to do it. I don’t know if this post goes against any guidelines but if it does then feel free to delete it. Thanks again for reading!

My groaning shelves of unread books would definitely disagree with you there!

Tell me another serialised Doctor Who book series that is still on-going? Yes, we have the EDA and Virgin books and that’s the goal with this. I kinda want to write in faith of those ranges. I think the prose media deserves these serialised storytelling rather than the standalone approach.

Well yes, in those terms there isn’t anything current. Just making a silly comment. I shall back out of the thread now.

I may be interested, especially writing for Thirteen, although I am of the strong belief that she only travels with her four TV companions.

Sounds interesting!

I may well be interested in helping out, though I’m not sure if I’d have time.

Will keep an eye on this thread though

I’m down to write for the fifteenth, I actualy had a idea for a crossover idea for him which I still need to put into the fanfiction talk thread

Alternatively if we’re not just sticking with the doctors you named in the post, I could write a 12 story because not only is he my favourite doctor, but I’m sure he had more than a few adventures in the almost seventy years he was stuck at St Luke’s, be a pretty easy way to slot in a new original companion.

Day 02 of spamming the internet about my Doctor Who serialised book idea Hello again! Welcome back!

Today I would like to share a pitch idea I had about the Ninth doctor. It’s pretty simple but effective story. I did post about this idea before but I want to go into more details!

So it would be a whole theatre themed story where the Doctor and companion are forced to take part of the story in order to escape like they are literally part of the script.

But this would reveal some really interesting infos about the Doctor and companion and their honesty to each other.

Basically the Doctor’s past would be revealed, the whole War Doctor deal. I think it would be interesting since the Doctor never mentions this or at least not before Clara finds out about it so there would definitely be some spicy moments in the story.

There also could be a part in the story where it’s written like a drama script but again this is just a pitch. As much as I want to write a story about this I can’t because I have absolutely no experience in theatre or whatsoever but thank you anyway for reading this! I am obviously still looking for fanfic writers-

I couldn’t commit to a whole story, but as a theatre nerd and occasional performer, I would be happy to advise on theatre-related things!

I suppose I’d be up for doing Thirteen, I can try my hand at creating a new companion (but I’m unsure whether I’ll include Yaz or not)

I have a bit of a self-insert idea, for a character based on me as a companion. I haven’t fully fleshed it out, but the companion is slightly younger - not a child, but say Rose in S1. So between 18-20. They’re a runaway, having left home in their mid teens, while taking care of themselves and bouncing around found families. Maybe this is a bit too on the nose of a Doctor/Companion parallel, but hey.

Essentially, the idea would be that the companion would be saved, not in a saved from mundanity like Rose, Martha, Donna or Amy, but saved from themselves. Maybe they were getting into danger on the streets, they have a bit of a darker backstory than we’re first introduced to (i.e. the reasons into them running away get revealed over time).

The companion is also trans, but this is something that’s not revealed directly at all. Rather, it gets revealed through some sort of trip to the 2000’s episode, the Doctor being curious and going back on their own, or something involving memories. Think Clara and the young Doctor in Listen, but the roles reversed, the Doctor understanding what the companion is hiding (not hiding, but just terrified to talk about), and what makes them so scared.

There’d be Earth-bound stories, but there wouldn’t be the traditional companion family dynamic, and the companion would be very wary and distrusting of authority, such as UNIT. I’ve thought a bit about a Doctor-lite episode where they could meet Ruby, but that’s less developed.

The encounters with aggressive enemies really gets into the characters PTSD and fear of violence, so this is less a Ruby Sunday, character clearly develops PTSD from travelling, and rather, character enters the TARDIS with trauma, and the Doctor is attempting to balance healing them, showing them joy, but also protecting them when they encounter enemies.

There’s two possible Doctor’s I can imagine this companion travelling with, solo in each, so this’d take place in-between existing adventures:

  • Twelve - Grandfatherly, supportive, and fiercely defensive of the companion. Companion gradually learns to trust and accept his care despite a fear of older male figures in her life. She also relaxes him.
  • Thirteen - Again, fiercerly defensive, and brings the companion nothing but joy, and tries to show her how special the universe is. More of a mentor/mother relationship. But they have a similar understanding of life, family, identity, and feeling lost, and they both help each other.

This is just my own private thing I’m fleshing out a bit as an idea, but yeah.

Day 04 because I forgor to post yesterday-

Today I have a character trope pitch for Doctor Who. It’s not necessarily for the Ninth Doctor, honestly it would fit Ten or Eleven better- So this idea is a companion who might not keep a good companionship with the Doctor.

I would say the companion would keep intervening/question the Doctor in a morally grey way. The Doctor would only keep them around because he wants to prove himself wrong or at least his Time Lord Victorious self wrong. He believes he can change the companion in a good way.

It’s not like the Missy relationship they had because the Doctor didn’t even believe in Missy until the very end. I think a relationship with a companion like this would be worth to explore though tell me which companion is the closest to this trope? If there’s any.

Day 06 of I changed the name of the thread because I just wanted to share other ideas here as well-

Have I told you guys that I’m studying to be a TV director? Not necessarily for Doctor Who but it definitely inspires me to create good stories for television or for well streaming services I suppose-

Crazy idea I had is I want to do a fan-made novel adaptation of Jonathan Morris’ Touched by an Angel. Picked this one because it’s just sooo good. I would hire a bunch of voice actors and impressionists for this and I would try to adapt the story myself. Thoughts? I only find that BBC would say a big nono because this would be free on YouTube for everyone to listen to- eh we will see- I will share some other ideas in the future and plans if you are all curious! Stay tuned! And eat lots of carrots. Love those fellows.
