TARDIS Guide CYOA

There have been some rumblings in our Choose Your Own Adventure readalongs of writing our own CYOA - I thought it would be good to have a place to consolidate our thoughts!

I think my main question about all this is the logistics - how are we going to decide what we’re doing and who’s doing what, and where are we going to put all the pieces? But that’s what this chat is for.

Paging @ProfessorSummerfield @Jae @Jamie @DontBlink (sorry if I forgot anyone else who’s interested!)

I’d be down to help out! Logistics is my specialty so I can defo help on that front.

I think if we have a rough outline for a story and work off of some branches that way.

I was just about to make a thread for this lol

I think different people writing a section would be fun, it means parts of the story is still a surprise to the people involved, although we would probably need an outline like Jamie said

I think having multiple branch off points would be great, that drastically change the story. Lots of potential! If we get a small group together we could maybe form a group chat and make a google doc or something alike.

I agree that a rough outline, and then different people writing different sections is probably the best way to go about it.

I think one of the first things we’d have to decide on is what TARDIS team we’d want to have in the story, as well as a general idea of a villain/problem and setting, since those would make sense to stay the same I think (unless we go all timey-wimey with the doctor for example)

I was thinking we could have choices on like which Doctor you end up with :eyes:

Maybe we do an opening to introduce the alien/villain, then the Doctor runs in, and you pick which Doctor it is! The story would go in different directions because each Doctor would do different things :eyes:

I did think about like being teleported to a room with a bunch of TARDISes and we have to choose which one to go into. Can describe them so its obvious-ish who’s is who’s… even have a red bus :eyes:

Much as I love the idea of multiple Doctors, I also think perhaps we should try not to be too overambitious with our first one - maybe we could pick two or three Doctors that we could travel with because having 15+ for our first choice is already a little overwhelming

If we pick 2-3 Doctors with the most contrasting personalities, then the direction the story goes will be very different depending on which one

Oh that’s what I meant! I didn’t mean the choice of that many aha

Honestly, I love this idea already and I love how excited eveyrone is. This could be fun!

As for Doctors, we coul choose something like 1, 6 and 10 or 3, 7 and 13 for instance.

I love this idea and as I said before I can add it to the website and add buttons to select a choice which go to a “page”.

We can even get statistics about how many people choose each option, who got what ending, etc.

I’ll do the coding and leave the writing to others though!

It will be lots of fun

Please can River Song be in it :eyes:

Can we give the god child a gun? Can we die of dysentery like we’re playing The Oregon Trail?

If Six is involved, you already know I’m interested! (And if you do choose him, can Thirteen be another option…)

I suppose there are a couple of ways the we could proceed from here. Those who are interested in writing, we could team up and each group take one of the branches so we don’t all have to worry about the whole thing.

However for coherency, perhaps it would be good if we created a basic outline first with things such as the scenario, the villain, any important plot beats. I feel if we do different Doctors we should still more or less put them through the same story so when someone repeated the game, they wouldn’t be like ‘woah this is totally different’.

Perhaps then it is best to create a group chat somewhere then where we can thrash out the basic ideas (partly for ease of discussion, partly so we can not spoil everyone else!). I am happy to act more like an editor than a writer if we have plenty of interest to join in, but I really do think we should at least have an outline before we forge ahead

I’m here to chuck ideas out until someone tells me no

I think a group chat and an outline is the way to go :+1:
I also like the idea of different people doing different branches of the story :eyes:

Please react with a :k9: if you want to be added to the group because you want to be involved with the writing or planning!

I see we’re already kind of jumping into a multi-Doctor affair here. I guess my initial assumption was that we’d pick a single Doctor for the first one and then potentially do a separate one for each Doctor. I also expected a poll in this thread to help pick our starting Doctor, and then a series of polls to decide on other elements of the outline (companions, enemies, setting, etc). On the other hand, the way it’s developing at the moment is potentially interesting as well.

If we do include Six in this, can we have Evelyn as his companion?
