Susan Twist Returns?!

Would rather her character get more development and to explore her “original” (idk what other word to use) version more.

But I’ve got a sinking feeling she’s just going to be in the background and her appearance will be fleeting.

It’d be nice if she had trauma or trouble with what had happened. And if RTD was so set in making her a parallel to Theresa May, it’d been cool to see a character with different ideological nuances than the other characters, but still be treated like an actual character instead of an antagonist. In the same way how Harriet Jones was a (global-interplanetary?) realist, while the Doctor was arguably painted as being morally correct in comparison.

But I fear she might just be pushed into the background to make some meaningless, albeit wholesome one-liners.

If we have an episode that is basically Space Babies 2 I can see people rioting in the streets haha (although I liked Space Babies)

Oh, Harriet Jones is a great parallel actually, perhaps Susan Twist develops the next generation Subwave Network…

Admittedly, I’m actually picturing her involvement being about as much as Rose Noble’s in the finale.

One Hand… I hope not.

On the other… It’d be funny announcing her coming back only for her to have three lines and that’s it! lol

The Christmas special wasn’t really ‘back to normal’. It just makes sense for them to schedule that one around the majority of the planet being on Christmas Day (rather than America still being on Christmas Eve), and so the BBC could get their big Christmas schedule together.

I doubt vocal fan reception plays into it nearly as much as we’d like to think when we are relatively small compared to the scale at which Disney+ normally runs that kinda scheduling for.

If RTD could do a great follow-up to Aliens of London/WW3 with Boomtown he can probably do a great Space Babies 2 (I also like Space Babies).

Interesting take - but if I might offer a slight tweak?

Yes.

Susan Twist is very nice, and seems to have enjoyed her time on and to like Doctor Who, so I’m fine with her coming back and getting more work in the show. Even if it’s just Susan Triad who now works with UNIT like was suggested at the end of Empire.

I do hate how the characters’ name is so close to the actor’s name tbh. Especially with the “there’s always a twist at the end” and Triad being a company name.

Just if I ever again conflate the character name for the actress, I am only referring to the character.

I don’t get the lukewarm reaction to her character returning. Susan Triad is one of my favourite supporting characters from Season One. I like how down to Earth the ‘original’ Susan is, considering she is the owner of a tech company, and I thought the Sutekh messenger Susans were one of the most interesting parts of Season One.

Personally hoping she gets a Big Finish spin-off set when this era is over.

I think because she is such a nothing character, just part of a plot twist. Also it seemed obvious she was going to be working for UNIT so announcing her return as if its some big thing that will get fans excited. Is anyone really excited about her return?

Oh yes, because now we know there will still be a twist at the end!

I mean, I am. :man_shrugging:

As I said, I’m hoping she gets a Big Finish set when this era is over.
