I’m honestly having a hard time thinking which ST characters would get along with the Doctor as companions. The Doctor shows up at DS9 and everyone has a horrible time.
I think Jadzia Dax would probably get along with quite a few Doctors. She’s a scientist who gets along with most people, she can be serious when needed but has a fun personality. She’d make a great companion.
7 shows up at DS9 and ends the Dominion War in a day
Seventh Doctor and Garak. That would be an interesting pairing.
Who else is helping him end the war so fast?
I could imagine Harry Kim making a good companion for… well, any Doctor, actually.
T’Pol. For, reasons…
Ah, that’s true. Ezri as well, she’d probably benefit more from it than Jadzia, who already has a grip on who she is and what she wants.
But his first day there he spends in security; Odo would arrest him on sight hahah
I’m finding myself imagining Harry Kim with 5, Nyssa, and Tegan…
I’m picturing Beckett Mariner with Capaldi.
I’ve also been mentally bouncing around the idea of the Doctor running into Neelix and Kes… but then part of my brain started thinking about that happening during The Two Doctors.
Can they take Neelix’s lungs for good this time?
Just finished Star Trek Prodigy, was fun to have more stories with Janeway, The Doctor, Chakotay and Wesley but grew to love the new characters a lot too. Wish it got more seasons but at least it got to wrap everything up.
Question for the Trekkies/Trekkers:
My wife has said she wants to try one of the new series as we have Paramount for the year (bought it for my Mum for Frasier, but that’s been cancelled…).
She’s watched everything from TNG to Enterprise. I’d reckon TNG and DS9 are her favourites.
Which of the Paramount Trek shows would people recommend we try out?
I highly recommend Strange New Worlds! It’s technically a spin off of Discovery and a prequel to the original series, but everything you need to know is explained in the first episode. It’s a return to episodic storytelling for Trek, something most of the other Paramount+ chose not to do, in my opinion much to their detriment. The show also tries much more to capture the tone and world of the series, with peaceful resolutions, words, and clever thinking solving the problem much more than violence. The characters and the chemistry between them are the best part of the show to me, with a mix of returning and new characters who all feel fresh and properly fleshed out.
My three new series recommendations are generally going to be Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, and Prodigy. Prodigy started out on Paramount, but isn’t on there now, being on Netflix instead, so I suppose that’s out.
Don’t really have much to add about Strange New Worlds. It’s a TOS prequel, with several TOS characters and set in that era.
Info on Prodigy that I belatedly realised was irrelevant, because it's not on Paramount
Prodigy is aimed at kids, but enjoyable for everyone. Lots of Voyager influence. If your wife likes Janeway, plenty of her. Cameos from several TNG characters. Teenage enslaved miners discover a derelict Starfleet ship, take off in it, and learn all about the Federation and its ideals.
Lower Decks is a comedy by people who definitely love Trek and make references to everything your wife has seen, inspired by the TNG episode “Lower Decks”, following the people that do things like moving around containers, and cleaning the holodeck rather then the bridge crew, and featuring a ship that does the less critical things, like second contact. This one is not particularly kid friendly. Highly entertaining and fun characters, has one episode designed for people that want more DS9.
It’s worth noting one of the episodes of Strange New Worlds is a crossover with Lower Decks. Watching the season 2 episode “Those Old Scientists” might give you a bit of both.
I love ds9 and like lower decks, but Also it’s in my contract that I have to pipe in with “something something Babylon 5” whenever someone saus “people that want more ds9”. Sorry, i’m aware this is both controversial and annoying, but. I don’t want to get fired from being my mom’s favorite and only son.
In this context, though, Babylon 5 is neither on Paramount+, nor is it Star Trek.
Thanks for the recommendations @wishiwashistan @SweetAIBelle @cosmik_homo . We do have Netflix so Prodigy isn’t out at all. SNW is what I had heard the most good stuff about so it was what I was going to suggest but wanted to check I wasn’t misremembering the praise.
Won’t be seeking out Babylon 5 though, sorry, because I was there in the 90s for that one and couldn’t stand it. All my friends continue to rave about it but it’s always going to be a ‘not bothered’ for me.
