Soundtrack appreciation

Fave classic version: 1980’s Howell version for sure. Also helps that it was the first theme I ever heard as I started watching classic who reruns from late 4th doctor onwards. Plus the synthesisers go hard as hell.

Fave nuwho version: s4 + specials version. I just love the extra layers of strings as well as the addition of piano to the melody.

Welcome to the forum Daximili.

I also adore the 80s Howell version. Sometimes when watching Who, I close my eyes during the closing credits and it just makes me feel happy!

What’s the weirdest soundtrack?

Obviously The Sea Devils has to be near the top of the list:

But Doctor Who and the Kazoo is a close contender:

And does anyone else love the sheer grooviness of this track?

I love the Cushing Doctor Movies! They aren’t the show but they’re great in their own way

Does anyone have a list over which classic Who stories have been released?
The streaming service I have for music has a very frustrating search engine.
There is The Daleks, The Krotons, The Invasion, Revenge of the Cybermen, The Sunmakers, The Five Doctors, The Visitation, The Caves of Androzani and Survival… Did I miss something?

Also Ghost Light

and Time and the Rani

Dominic Glynn also has some remixes based around stories he worked on:

There was also the 50th Anniversary Album but that was taken down from Spotify sometime last year or the year before.

In the past there were releases for The Leisure Hive, Meglos, Full Circle, Terror of the Zygons/Seeds of Doom, Pyramids of Mars, The Curse of Fenric, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, The Daleks and The Mutants and ones which covered the Radiophonic Workshop’s output during the 60s and 70s.

Thanks :+1: Can’t believe I forgot Ghostlight, I love that soundtrack! Time and the Rani has been added to my library!
Yeah those Dominic Glynn remixes are good. It’s a shame the rest you mentioned are unavailable… The Edge of Destruction is coming on vinyl so hopefully it will have a standard release as well

loving the time and the rani soundtrack. i cant stop imagining another timeline where there was doctor who game for the gamecube listening to this…

I should add soundtracks to the site…

Also, about versions of the theme tunes, I knew that the 2005 version was great when back when I started watching this show I was already singing “DOO-WEE-OOO~!” during the second episode.

The Five Doctors version with the transition from the original theme to the Howell theme is also [chef’s kiss]

For me the best version of the theme tune is Segun Akinola’s version, it just gives me all the right feelings. It is also my ringtone
I also really like Dominic Glynn’s Gallifrey One Remix of the theme tune interspersed with Colin Baker quotes :+1:

The best canon theme tune is easily the one from Big Finish’s Mary Shelly Trilogy with the 8th Doctor:

The only one that could have beaten it was the one that they recorded for the Edge of Time game, but didn’t end up using (they just kept 13s for annoyingly understandable brand unity reasons):

Other soundtrack favorites that haven’t been mentioned above:

Love Don’t Roam

Aristotle We Have Been Hit

There’s A Man I Know (8’s Big Finish theme, I particularly love the slightly bouncier and more triumphant variant that plays at the end of Doom Coalition)

Legend of the Cybermen (the theme song’s already been mentioned, but I want to call out the rest of the music suite as well for being particularly excellent)

Also this:

That is a pretty glorious theme tune :slightly_smiling_face:

Also this one from The Light at the End:

When the entire orchestra gets going halfway through, it just gives me the chills :+1:

When it comes to the main theme the original is hard to beat.

I love Segun Akinola’s version. I love his work on Who in general & wish we got some vinyl releases.

I’d definitely love to see an official release of this one:

And I do remember at least once in Kerblam just sitting back listening to the music…
