Oh, that’s terrible news! A legend, in Doctor Who and elsewhere. One of the best guest actors DW has ever had!

She was woman enough to defy Julian Glover with the Pope!

That’s a shame. She was amazing…

It always amused me that Marsh was adamant she wasn’t a companion and yet fandom will probably never even agree to disagree over her status.

That’s very sad. Her Doctor Who turns were always on point, as was her wider career. Another legend lost.

She was marvellous in Willow and Return to Oz. She cornered the 80s market in powerful witch characters.

When it was just TV I’d say no, Sara Kingdom was not a companion. But now, there’s Big Finish and stuff that gives her more stories traveling with the Doctor, so I grant her the rank of companion now.

Very sorry to hear that Jean Marsh has passed away. I’m afraid I didn’t see her playing Sara Kingdom in the 1960s, as I was just slightly too young for the William Hartnell era of Doctor Who, but I came to appreciate the character in later life.

Although I’m a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, I shall always remember Jean Marsh best for her role as Rose Buck in Upstairs, Downstairs, a series that she co-created. That was my nan’s favourite TV series in the 1970s, and I have happy memories of watching Upstairs, Downstairs with her and my mum on Sunday nights.

R.I.P.

Heartbreaking News.

Rest in Peace for such a legendary Actress. Easily one of Who’s best Guest Star, a great Companion, as well as a great Villain. Even outside Who, she was probably one of the most reliable Actresses in terms of great Performances. She will be truly be missed. And I hope her Relatives and Friends can take all the Time to mourn.

Very sad to hear of Jean Marsh. I’ll be listening to Big Finish’s Home Truths later to remind myself what a great actress she was. RIP.
