I get nearly all my books from the library.
Or a rather frustrating experience. This is coming from my personal experience with a Doctor who book. Thankfully it was a one time thing.
Browsing is really the thing I miss. I love walking around in a bookshop and finding interesting books I didnāt know I needed, and online kinda ruins that.
In another lifeā¦
Once upon a time I enjoyed browsing books and finding things to pique my interest. That faded before the demise of brick-and-mortar bookstores. I read mostly fantasy books as a teen and into my early 20s, I guess. But then the New Adventures came along, went monthly, were joined by the Missing Adventuresā¦
That was pretty well the end of me reading anything other than Doctor Who and spinoff books. Sure after the insane 3-book-a-month period where every month there was an EDA, a PDA, and a Benny NA, things calmed down a bit, but by then I had other things going on in my life and wasnāt reading as much. Hmmā¦where was I?
Oh yeah, at that point browsing had been replaced with checking for new Who material. There was a certain tingle of anticipation there, as I never knew just when something would show up, especially here in the US where arrivals were more erratic. But those were quick visits, not the leisurely pleasure of browsing.
Heck, at this point, Iām surprised I even remember browsing!
Physical. Nothing makes reading prose more enjoyable in my opinion that been able touch and flick the pages with your own fingers. It makes the attachment to the book grow and keeps me invested.
I feel that personally I already spend enough time with a screen in front of me so its nice to just surrender myself to a book for half an hour or so each day. The feeling of flicking to the page and removing the bookmark, putting it back in. Seems really daft but I feel like Iām experiencing a book that way, rather than just consuming it.
I read mostly everything pre-2020 as it was released in physical form. In recent years I have migrated to digital.
Has anyone tried a colour e-reader? I really like the reading experience on my Pocketbook that I have today, but I am interested in reading comics on an e-reader.
Iāve been thinking about it, but I havenāt tried yet. Iām also interested in hearing about them if anyone has any experiences to share
Iād love to, and the new Boox tablets seems so nice! But I already have a 6 inch one, a 10.3 inch one, and an iPad. Canāt buy another pad or itās really gonna be too ridiculous.
Yeah, Boox is one of the ones I have been looking at as well.
Both of my e-readers are from them and I love it! Though both times I considered for too long and bought them only to find a new model out in weeks
My biggest worry about the Boox Go 7 Colour that I have been looking at is both how good the colours actually are and if the screen is too small for comics.
For comics you need at least 10.3 inch or itās gonna be hard to read the words⦠7.8 inch can manage Japanese comics but not the style American or European comics Iāve read
Iām not sure which Go 7 Colour is. They either got different names for overseas market or completely different products. (e.g. They never sold NoteAir2 here)
That is what I was thinking but alot of reviews of talk about comics and it seems to work fine. But I would realy like to hold one to test for myself.
I liked this review.
I held a colour e-reader today. It was a Kobo Libra Color. I was really impressed with its screen. The colours looked really good, and it felt a bit like reading a newspaper comic. It had Captain Marvel on it, and there was no problem with reading the text.
I got an urge to buy one after that. Still looking at a Pocketbook or a Boox one if I am buying. But they are also kind of expensiveā¦
The physical buttons look so nice! My thumbs get sore reading on e-readers ā I even got this to turn pages lol
I thought this was another e-reader at first and I thought: where are the pages, how do you read on that thing?
