At least most of them in private hands are more likely to be better off than ones that are just in an abandoned building somewhere, buried somewhere, or otherwise exposed to the elements.

While Doctor Who is the big one I’d be excited about, it’d definitely be great if they find other lost media, too, like episodes of “Out of This World” or “Out of the Unknown”…

I would be the opposite of mad if this film can has a ton of miscellaneous Pertwee film inserts that could upgrade those episodes! It’s not exactly as exciting as getting a can that says “Power Of The Daleks Part 1” but upgrading The Silurians or Ambassadors would still make me VERY happy indeed.

I wonder if getting, say, 10% of a story from damaged film would open up the possibility for Shada-like animations. Since you could keep the same quality for reduced cost if theres less to animate

Going to say what I always say regarding missing epsiodes. Don’t get your hopes up. It’d be lovely if this turns out to be something big, but likelihood is it wont be. Still hopefully something comes of it!

I feel very comfortable setting my hopes at the level of “all of the film sequences in The Silurians currently look like potato, it would be neat if this had even a minute or two of that original film, or similar.” I’ve only got my expectations on the stun setting lolol

Yes, it’s a well kept secret that due to a major issue with the VT cameras during the recording of the story they had to use 16mm colour film cameras to record the show. After the film was transferred to VT all the reels went missing, so the BBC just covered it up and pretended the show was recorded on VT all along.

Apparently the contents of those two 16mm reels are a mixture of colour and monochrome material, lots of clips.
My initial hope was that it’s The Deadly Assassin episode 3. But more likely it’s a compilation of film trims. Very exciting in any case!

New rumour that one episode has been recovered. It should be noted even if the episode is recovered it may not be in a watchable state, and it is just a rumor currently. But let’s live in hope

We know they were actively involved in dealing with a collector’s collection and that their passing was part of the reason it was tied up in legalese.
So maybe this is the next step to actually acquiring it and releasing it.
