If it was, say, one episode of a completely missing serial, it’d make sense to expect there might be other episodes of that serial in the collection…

I would absolutely love for even one episode of Marco Polo to return. I will say, I’m not getting my hopes up as there are SO many episode missing that it could be anything. I’m just happy that we’re finally getting more returned!

If I remember correctly, Enemy and Web were announced around a month or so before the 50th anniversary.
The Enemy DVD came out shortly after (November/December time) and Web followed in February.

If I had to pick what I’d most want it to be, it would be from one of the stories we have no episodes of, especially the two Wiles era ones that have no telesnaps, or the ones we have only one episode of, especially if 6 parts.

Even more encouraging news in Doctor Who Magazine from Film is Fabulous. Is it naive of me to think they have something and it’s on its way back to the BBC? If it is a matter of weeks, could we be getting something between Nov 23rd and Christmas? Exciting times.
Plus Jason Quinn’s editorial also sounds promising. I’m not posting the full details, buy the mag. But it sounds like things are progressing.

Film is Fabulous! spokesman Mark Stuckey was interviewed in Doctor Who Magazine 623 where he continued to be optimistic on the subject of missing Doctor Who episodes but urged patience.
“We believe that TV shows are made to entertain and be seen. We want them to be seen. But to do that we need to look at the film and look after the film, and this can take time. Remember it has been years since the last discoveries of missing Who came to light. We need to do this correctly for all concerned and a few months more is not going to hurt anybody. But I feel, timeline-wise, we will have a very exciting announcement to make in a matter of what could be weeks, rather than months. Rest assured, we’re doing all we can to ensure that these finds will get into the public domain as quickly as possible, so that we can all sit down and enjoy what we thought we had lost forever.”

I’m not gunna pin my hopes on 23rd November, but even just the suggestion of “weeks” has me hopeful for the end of 2025 or the start of 2026.

We’ve known for a while that a few have been in private collections, so it was never going to be that we never got anything back. But this is exciting news, and I think only more to come as FIF keeps doing their thing. Their statement of there being “several” episodes they’re aware of is huge. But as they say, they only work in full collections, everything has to be done correctly with the proper procedure, so we just have to be patient with them. It’s a lot of work they do.

Absolutely, Doctor Who is a drop in the ocean of all the lost media that’s out there. Doctor Who is rather lucky it has as much existing as it does.

It also depends what state these film reels are in. There may well be collectors out there with episodes, but if they have no clue how to properly look after what they have…
This sounds promising though. I’ve said before, I’d even take clips at this point, if not whole episodes.

We’re lucky there’s audio for every single story, even if it varies in quality. Without that, reconstructions wouldn’t really be possible (well, if scripts remain one could record new dialogue from those, but the soundtrack would be a mystery).
