Excited to start this!
Episode 1 done, really enjoyed this opener !
Episode 2 was a DELIGHT! Also, written by a new writer for BF! Though he’s recently been working with them as a script edito, but this is his first actual script. Loving this set!
Curious to know who the other voter is, they’ve rated the eps considerably lower than me!
Episode 3 was not as strong as the middle episode, but still a great story. Really harrowing at times!
without spoiling anything. Is this a ‘complete’ story that stands by itself or is it a part 1 for future planet kynoid boxset(s)?
It could stand by itself, but does leave room for a future series, which is confirmed in the interviews.
Yeah, I pre-ordered this box set loads in advance because I knew I’d enjoy it, but this is definitely right in my wheelhouse. My favourite new release (that I’ve listened to, obviously) from BF in a little while.
I’m probably biased, I absolutely love this sort of thing, but I think it’s objectively a really strong set- excited for more.
Same I love these apocalypse style stories, and to hear it happen from beginning to full on apocalypse status at the end was great. I’m really glad they have plans for more, as it’ll be cool to maybe even go down the post-apocalyptic route!
Alternatively, we could be in for a cure storyline, honestly there’s lots of ways they can take a future set. Not to mention, now we know its their home planet, that raises an ethical question too!
Listened to episode one! Fun, but I feel a few things were missing. Here’s my review!
Episode two! I really enjoyed this one– loved the B-movie atmosphere and the horror elements. Great stuff!
Final episode! I enjoyed this one but it was probably my least favourite of the set.
I’m interested in where the Krynoids will go next! I’d like to see another series, preferably one that leans more into the horror, and one that doesn’t feature the Doctor (although funnily this episode in this set was my favourite!).
Another has been confirmed in the extras! I’m quite intrigued how it’ll go as it sounds like a direct sequel. Totally agree with you re: the Doctor. I don’t know why BF lately have been shoehorning him into everything like Paternoster and this and Zygon Century. I guess its to make it more appealing but idk, they’ve gotta let some stuff stand on its own.
This was really enjoyable, even if episodes two & three didn’t quite live up to the promise of the first. Hopefully there will be more.
The world building was great, & the influence of things like Alien, The Walking Dead & Survivors was evident but PK had its own unique feel. A really interesting mix of characters & some elements of class structure & also family dynamics added depth to the drama. Slight criticisms of episode two, the appearance of Doctor Who lessened the drama & took away a bit from the original characters. Also it was disappointing that Governor Hodan died, Reece Shearsmith was really good in the role & it would have been nice to see this complex character survive & deal with the consequences of his actions. & tbh give him more to do. Also the ending which throws in an event that blinds the population, yes I’ve read The Day of the Triffids as well BF. It felt too similar.
The final episode was the most chaotic in terms of escalation of events & it was all well realised. But felt tonally separate for me to the previous two episodes. Almost like the start of the next season. & again a really interesting character is killed off. In fact we don’t seem to be left with many characters at all by end. It finishes with a character delivering a line of dialogue no real person would ever say but works in fiction to herald a second season.
I may sound a bit negative, I’m not, I really enjoyed it. PK is a great idea for an ongoing series & a few minor criticisms aside it feels like a good start to a new series. I just hope we don’t get Doctor Who turning up again or other characters from the Whoniverse. BF could have their own version of The Walking Dead here with a classic monster being used as a backdrop to an interesting story of survival in a hostile world.
While I disagree with you somewhat, this I entirely agree with. I think it’s a marketing tactic because lately it’s become a big thing for them. Paternoster, Zygon Century, Dark Gallifrey even. I don’t know who’s telling them they must include the Doctor but it’s annoying.
Really enjoyed the opener - a bit rushed and loads of characters to keep up with, but the vibes are strong!
8/10
Sunlight is a gripping, chilly reintroduction to the Krynoids, combining body horror, corporate satire, and classic sci-fi paranoia in an atmospheric first act. Reece Shearsmith’s Governor Hodan is a sympathetic, morally complex lead, and the icy setting offers a refreshing twist on the usual Krynoid formula. While the story rushes through its ensemble and doesn’t fully explore its class conflict, it sets the stage for an epic three-part tale with creeping dread, effective horror, and a haunting sense of inevitability. This Krynoid saga is only just beginning—and it’s already showing its thorns.

Yep. Zygon Century sounded great. Then I read that Doctor Who turns up.
To be fair, he’s only in one of the three stories.
Yeah and it by no means ruined it.
I finished this bix set today and what an intense ride it turned out to be. The second episode is very effective and so very tense, with some amazing sound design and a very interesting role for the Doctor.
9/10
Sunset is a brutal, breathless entry in Planet Krynoid, ramping up the horror and action with some truly grisly moments and fantastic sound design. The Eighth Doctor’s mysterious re-entry adds intrigue, while the central themes of ecological backlash and colonial exploitation give the story weight. It may not answer many of the bigger questions, and it’s more about the ride than the resolution, but what a ride it is. With plant-based peril, high-stakes sacrifice, and an atmosphere thick with dread, Sunset continues the Krynoid saga in savage, style-soaked fashion – and leaves the door wide open for more green horrors yet to come.
