Personal Stats - on the roadmap

Hey everyone this is a ROADMAP post which means you can vote for ideas that you want to see sooner, this will help shape the future of the site!

I’m starting the Roadmap with something that is definitely coming soon, so there’s not really any need to waste your limited votes on this one, but this will also be a place to discuss ideas.

Personal Stats is supposed to be a huge draw to using the site, but I haven’t found time to fully flesh it out yet. It’s going to get much better!

Here are some plans I have, please let me know any ideas I might be missing (I have plans written in note pads all over the place, still need to bring them all together!)

More Personal Stats on Profiles

Currently it’s just TV, this will expand to other media - Audio, Books, Short Stories, etc.

Are there any other ideas to improve profile stats? Anything you think is missing?

Set and Collectable stats, mixed with personal stats

I was given this graph by @ineffyble and I love it - it shows the average rating of each story in a Set (this is UNIT) as a bar chart, and then the line chart on top is @ineffyble’s ratings. It’s a cool way to see how close you are to the general consensus.

View Bar Chart

I definitely plan to add stuff like this to Sets and Collectables that contain stories.

This is the very next thing I will build - in the New Year - so let’s hear your ideas!

The graph is for UNIT: The New Series + UNIT: Nemesis, not Eleven and Valerie.

An initial idea I had would be rating vs length of time.

  • under 30 minutes avg 3.2/5 avg
  • 30-45 minutes 3.6/5 avg
  • etc etc

Also, breakdown by:

  • Writer
  • Release Year/month
  • an “all stories” option for looking at your stats with above breakdowns available too.

Maybe an ability to make your own selections to generate a graph from. Say I want to see all of the releases with no Doctor, or no companion etc, I can add a selection to a list and then generate a graph.
EDIT: this can be tied in with playlists.

Just some quick thoughts, that honestly are probably in your notes anyway.

Oh yeah sorry I had multiple graphs and got them mixed up!

Love the idea of personal stats for books and audios! This all looks so cool!

Stats! I love stats! One of the reasons I joined was for stats! There can never be enough stats! I’ll just need to think a little bit about what kind of stats would be nice to have. But what @ItsR0b0tNinja said above could be interesting at least.

I want stats too.

It’s always interesting realising something random is actually something you like, especially when you realised you didn’t know that it was something you liked.

I adore stats, it’s my favourite kind of math! So I always want more stats

Some things that might be interesting: average rating of a character’s stories, stories experienced by type or era (perhaps some pie charts), comparing average ratings of sets/etc with others, which character have you experienced the most stories of
None of those are necessary, I’m just brainstorming

Oh yes, these are great ideas! Love the idea of average ratings for characters.

Of course, the trouble is that you might very much like characters that are in otherwise bad episodes…

Yes that’s why I’m also planning Character ratings and favourites - on the roadmap

Oh I would love to be able to compare my rating on a character vs their stories I feel like that would be very fun

Yesss! I need to see my Paul Cornell bias reflected in hard numbers!!

I think it’d be interesting to have stats showing when you’ve logged stuff, like how many things you watched/listened to/read each month, or in which month you logged the most stories

Oh yes that’s a good idea!

Not really personal stats, but I’d love to be able to sort by number of favourites actually

Sort by number of favourites is an interesting idea too!

I’ve been having lots of fun doing graphs.

I want to use lots of different graph types from here, if anyone is good with stats please let me know your ideas how I could use them.

On the “general stats” page I want to make a graph called “The Big Finish Dartboard” and show connections between their main characters and enemies, using this really cool graph, but I can’t work out how to do it (the relationships have to be directional, and have to be a weighted value not just a number of stories).

But that’s the kind of stuff I’m thinking of, really fun interesting stats!

I’ve built this now

View a Set and click the “View Set Stats” button, it will load a chart that shows the average ratings per story, and your ratings per story.

It’s really nice to look at this and see how your ratings differ from the averages!

I’m also going to add another graph here which shows the number of completions, number of ratings, and number of skips, of each story in the set. I’ll work on that later.

EDIT: I switched them!

Nice feature. May I suggest that you switch the line to average and have the staples as your rating?
