What do we reckon, is Susan coming back?

I honestly don’t know. Based on that news article it seems like she wants to but hasn’t been asked. And, if that’s the case, then I can’t see it happening.

If she were going to make a return then the time to do it is now, I feel. There were quite a few references to Susan in the last series as well as the theme of being reunited with your family. So it would make sense to bring her back for a reunion in the next series or two. Based on Carole Ann Ford’s comments here though it doesn’t sound like that’s on the cards.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that she’s already filmed an appearance and she’s just trying to preserve the surprise. That’s certainly what I’m hoping for!

Bring her back, for 15s regeneration story, then enough please. No more nostalgia & old characters returning. Move on!

This reads to me like someone asked her if she would return, and she can’t confirm or deny so just talked about what it “would” be like.

It wouldn’t surprise me if she has/will and the BBC published that article to get people thinking about it.

Carole was due to appear at a small convention near me a couple of weeks ago but a friend of mine who went said that sadly she was ill and coudn’t attend.

Oh yeah, that interview, I remember! No idea why I haven’t commented on this at all, but to make it short:

I really don’t know.
Personally, I would adore a return from her. And I think if Susan comes back, it has to be Carol Ann Ford for at least one appearance, preferably maybe more, similarly as they have done it with the last Season of the Lucie EDAs.

I think it would make sense too, as @mrtc2003 pointed it out they made a bunch of reference to her, and it seems like something that could in theory really fit in.

Now… and maybe I am the only one on this board, but a return to Susan might be one of the hardest Episodes to get right and maybe because of that, it hasn’t been attempted on TV. There is a lot of Story Potential and especially playing with Emotions, but it’s something most fans have been dreaming about for such a long while, that I feel like this could easily be a bummer for many quickly. And I must admit it would probably be RTD writing her and as much as I do think he is and can be a great Writer. Going by his recent track record of bringing back old characters such as Mel, Sutekh and yes to a lesser extent Donna in the Giggle I am not sure if I would be too thrilled about it.

I do insist it’s one of those shows which I desperately want, but really hope they find a very good story to justify it, because there is a lot of potential, even more if you don’t act like Susan hasn’t seen her Grandfather since the first Doctor. And I think Carol has a lot to offer with a return, so it would be a true shame if that never happens.

In terms of: Will it happen? Who knows at this point, if it doesn’t happen now, it is unlikely to happen any time in the future, at least for Carols return, which I think is a must before you can even think of having a Susan 2.

Yes, if they wait too long and Carol is no longer able to do it then the impact will be much less, just having some random person say “I’m Susan”.

I don’t know why they’re waiting - it’s not like no one knows how old Carole is!

Yes, but probably not in the way you hope.

Last seen on screen in 1983? I doubt it.

Ugh yeah this makes me sad now.

I was so happy and looking forward to seeing more of Susan when she popped up in The Interstellar Song Contest, I jumped out of my seat!

And then… nothing

It’s so bizarre to think Susan leaves in The Dalek Invasion of Earth, briefly returns and is paired up with the Hurndall Doctor for The Five Doctors, and the next we see of her on TV[1] is… The Interstellar Song Contest, in which she’s an unexplained apparition(?), then appears once more on a TV in Wish World, and then just vanishes again.

Honestly, with the reshoots and change of plans for how Season 2 ended, I wish they’d cut Carole out completely – use Belinda to be the voice/face which prompts 15 back into action in Interstellar, and cut her out of Wish World. As much as it pains me to lose Carole/Susan, I’d rather have had no appearance than a nostalgia-bait cameo which ultimately went nowhere.

What a bizarre list of appearances
  • An Unearthly Child
  • The Daleks
  • The Edge of Destruction
  • Marco Polo
  • The Keys of Marinus
  • The Aztecs
  • The Sensorites
  • The Reign of Terror
  • Planet of Giants
  • The Dalek Invasion of Earth
  • The Five Doctors
  • {The Name of the Doctor}
  • The Interstellar Song Contest
  • Wish World

It would’ve absolutely stung Carole more to be completely cut, so I’m very glad they didn’t attempt it. Yeah, it’s incredibly disasterous that this is a loose end hung off in the way that it has been and will be now, because of what happened to the end of The Reality War… But having spoken to her after that first glimmer of her was out into the public, knowing she could finally talk about it, she was bubbly in extremes about it all. It’s brought her a new wave of love and attention, and I’d rather have that via glimmers instead of losing her entirely - with a completely broken promise, no new wave of love, and no ability to actually talk about what she’d done. (She certainly can’t talk about the original ending of The Reality War because it never aired, and neither can anyone else who was in those scenes, or have even seen the edits where it was still in place.)

I am pained by the lack of More Than 30 Years in the TARDIS in this list. :winking_face_with_tongue:
