One day, I was just going about my life and then suddenly- Big Finish Jumpscare
So, I thought, why not, why shouldn’t I document my experiences? My hardships when I find terrible ones. My happiness when I find good ones. My sadness when I realise I’m bankrupt because I spent my life savings on the pre-order bundle for the 13th Doctor CDs. So (and yes, I did nick this idea from @Bencehun_12, sorry ) here’s a database. The way I’m going to do this is I’m going to put all the things I’ve done on the starting post for the topic and then the reviews are going to be posted as replies to this topic. Here we go!

The Monthly Adventures
#210 The Peterloo Massacre
Written By Paul Magrs
What a nice one to start off on (what happens in it isn’t nice but I’m sure you get what I mean). This main range is an absolute gem by Paul Magrs. And that comes from a Mancunian himself. I’ll be honest, I had no idea this happened before I listened to it.
This adventure is a pure-historical (no aliens but they go back in time) where the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) and Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) crash into August 1819 after the TARDIS gets caught in the smog from the industrial revolution and falls into the garden of the house of factory owner and all-around idiot, Mr Hurley (Robbie Stevens). The usual stuff happens where Mr Hurley tries to take advantage of the TARDIS and at the end of part 1 when the Doctor realises where (or should I say when) is executed perfectly.
The way this story talks about real tragedies committed by the higher class that were overlooked at the time and also how it isn’t afraid to get real and dark is done really well and I want to thank Paul Magrs for this amazing main range installment.

#260 Dark Universe
Written By Guy Adams
Yippee! I love being confused! This one is pretty crazy. I’ve listened to it about five times and I still don’t get it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the Eleven’s part and Sophie Aldred does a great job at playing an Ace who holds a grudge against 7 because of how he manipulated her.
This adventure is a wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey confuser (this is a very confusing one and it has a lot of weird time bits). It starts with a deal Ace (Sophie Aldred) has struck with the Eleven (Mark Bonnar) where she is heading into the jungle to find a portal to a mysterious universe dubbed ‘The Dark Universe’. One thing leads to another, and to another, and to another and the Eleven becomes the ruler of the universe, the Doctor becomes his court jester and Ace is stuck trying to stop the Eleven and his other incarnations who have been separated out of his mind into robotic bodies with Cardinal Ollistra (Carolyn Pickles) and Rasmus (Damian Lynch).
The ending to this story is a bit lackluster and I don’t understand most of it. I also don’t understand why they set up The Last Day Part 1 + 2 in January 2020 and then released The Last Day Part 1 + 2 four years later.
Unfortunately, the Main Range audios you’ve listed aren’t ones I’ve heard. We do have the Audio Club where we’ve been slowly working our way through the Main Range from the beginning (#42 just dropped today). Doom Coalition is quite good, and much more a cohesive whole across all four boxsets than the previous arc of Dark Eyes.

The 8th Doctor Adventures - Doom Coalition 3
#3.1 Absent Friends
Written By John Dorney
I cried because of this one, but I’m sure most people did. I am talking about the star of this boxset, Absent Friends by John Dorney. The performances put in by Paul McGann, Hattie Morahan and Nicola Walker (but especially the last two) are phenomenal.
This story is mostly a pure-historical but it has a bit of alien intervention even if it’s just a clock. Basically, after the finale of Doom Coalition 2, the TARDIS lands in Calcot, August 1998 and discover that the inhabitants of the village have been troubled by mobile phone calls from dead relatives after the new telephone mast was built. Also, Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan) goes to London to speak to her now elderly younger brother whilst she pretends to be her own daughter.
The sequences where Liv Chenka has to speak to her dead dad after she didn’t get to say goodbye to him are absolutely heartbreaking.

The 8th Doctor Adventures - Doom Coalition 3
#3.2 The Eighth Piece
#3.3 The Doomsday Chronometer
Written By Matt Fitton
I want to start off this review by saying that the Solvers should return and that they’re amazing. Big Finish, if you’re listening, please bring them back. Anyway, enough with praying to our Big Finish Overlords wink wink Nick Briggs.
This two-parter with The Doomsday Chronometer is an amazing mid-point for this boxset. This one is a timey-wimey historical. Basically, the Doctor (Paul McGann), Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) and Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan) go back in time to look for the Doomsday Chronometer’s pieces to stop the Doom Coalition from ending the world. Also, River Song and clockwork-puzzle-box-people called Solvers are here which makes this boxset even better. I think that the Clocksmith (Nicholas Woodeson) and Osm/The Eight (Tim McMullian) perform their parts perfectly and add amazingly to this story.
This two-parter is amazing in my opinion and only adds to this incredible boxset in the Doom Coalition series.

The 8th Doctor Adventures - Doom Coalition 3
#3.4 The Crucible Of Souls
Written John Dorney
My favourite villain is introduced in this story (John Heffernan’s Nine). The Crucible of Souls may be a very confusing place and plot point but when you listen a couple times you’ll get it a bit better.
This story is the finale to Doom Coalition 3 and features the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), River Song (Alex Kingston), Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) and Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan) going up against Padrac (Robert Bathurst) and The Nine (John Heffernan). The Doctor is also in disguise as the deceased member of the Doom Coalition, the Clocksmith, and The Nine is pretending to be the Doctor for the whole of this adventure
All in all, Doom Coalition is one of the best boxsets I’ve listened to and it’s up there with Missy Series One and Ravenous 3.
This is my least favourite out of this boxset, it isn’t bad but I don’t find it as incredible as Better Watch Out/Fairytale Of Salzburg or as genuinely creepy as Seizure.
In this adventure (after the events of World Of Damnation and Sweet Salvation at the end of the last boxset), the Doctor takes Liv and Helen to Kaldor and whilst he investigates the robots and the locals, who are currently protesting, Liv and Helen go to the new leisure palace where things quickly turn sour as Liv meets an old friend. I find most of this story a bit boring and not as engaging and exciting as Robots Of Death. I do think that I’ll pick up the Robots series because I really want to know what happened to Liv and Tula during that year without the Doctor or Helen on Kaldor.
I just think that this adventure is overshadowed by the amazing stories of the following three adventures in the boxset.
