Loved these two audios so much, I decided to add them to my physical collection. The wait for the next few cover/title releases is driving me insane
Season 4.5 my beloved
It is a fun one!
Romance of Crime also got a Novel Adaptation from Big Finish.
I know, I got that one on sale two weeks or so ago, it’ll be interesting to compare them
Well, sure, but there’s a sizable cost difference between buying these sets than buying the individual seasons. Still a good value, unless you have to have all the bells and whistles.
I’ve got these sets for 9-12. Yeah, I’d like to have all those extras, but let’s face it - if I’m binging 20 years worth of episodes…who has time for the special features?!
Agreed. And it’s not like the individual Season sets had that much by way of Special Features. If I really want a commentary, I’ll request the season from my local library.
I always forget that people outside of the UK don’t just have the Whoniverse all available at the touch of a button on iPlayer
I have series 1-4 on BluRay just because it’s HD and for the special features, but I don’t even need to use it if I just want to watch an episode.
I appreciate that more now, knowing that you have to buy the DVDs!
For me, living in the Pacific Northwest, USA, Doctor Who is scattered all over the place. If I want to watch the whole the whole series on streaming, I’d need Britbox ($9) for Classic, Max ($17 with no ads) for Series 1-13, and Disney+ ($16 with no ads) for the 60th Anniversary Specials onwards. So to stream all of Doctor Who, I’d need to fork over $42/month, plus however much it costs for high-speed internet, which for the highest speed (which my family needs for streaming, gaming and just general internet usage) is $65/month. So to watch all of Doctor Who, I’d be paying $107 a month.
Thankfully there are free places to watch the Classic Series. Pluto TV has a Doctor Who channel (Pluto TV: Watch Free Movies, TV Shows & Live TV Online), but that’s a channel with a set schedule so you have to hope that what you want to watch just happens to be playing when you want to watch it (right now, at 12:20am local time, it’s playing Part 4 of the Time Monster). Tubi has all of existing Classic barring unanimated stories with missing episodes as well as An Unearthly Child. Then of course there’s the Youtube channel that’s been putting out free Classic stories.
There’s also my local library, but they’ve actually removed several Classic Series DVDs over the years. Discs wear out, Doctor Who is a niche audience, because each story is a separate disc they take up a lot of space, new stuff is constantly coming out and space is finite. So, stories I originally watched on DVD from my library are no longer available that way. Then, there’s the collecting side of things. Apart from just wanting to collect the main show for a collecting purpose, there’s something to be said for physical media. Where I live, if we get harsh winter conditions, we’ll often lose internet access. That’s when having a physical disc I can stick in a drive or player is handy. Plus, the Collection has so many amazing special features. So yeah, the rest of the world isn’t as lucky as the UK.
For me in Sweden, I have no option to stream any Doctor Who before RTD2. It is physical media, VPN, or .
Even though I’m not usually a comic guy, with Most Wanted coming in a matter of days and an Amazon gift card to use somehow I decided to get the Origins comic from Titan, which arrived yesterday.
Really quite liked it.
Adding these to my physical media collection and just really happy I could find a copy of Cascade lol. Hardback covers, obviously
Edit: I’ve now ran out of space in my cabinet for audio dramas
Reminds me that I really need to look into selling some things on ebay myself, though not Doctor Who related. It’d be nice to get rid of several dozen Marion Zimmer Bradley books, for example.
