I listened to the latest Radio Free Skaro episode and learned about five new books announced by BBC Books.
The first two are short story collections: Doctor Who: The Adventures Before (out October 3, 2024) and Doctor Who: The Sequels (out March 20, 2025).
The Adventures Before:
Sequels:
The Adventures Before collects short stories that tell us what some of our favourite characters did right before their pivotal TV adventures:
What did Osgood do the morning of the Day of the Doctor?
What happened to Tegan before Arc of Infinity, and why does it involve strange sentient lights in the Australian outback?
What was the Tenth Doctor doing in a hall of mirrors, right before Planet of the Dead?
Answers to all these questions lie in an incredible collection of new Doctor Who short stories that give a glimpse into the moments just before we saw the Doctor step on screen.
From Skaro to Apalapucia, from a shop front drained of colour to Rassilon’s tomb, join a host of incredible adventures across the universe with Doctors, companions, friends and foes.
And Sequels does the same, but after pivotal TV adventures:
Discover what happened after . . .
A remarkable collection of new Doctor Who short stories that give a glimpse into the moments just after the Doctor saves the world, and the credits roll.
The Doctor has had many adventures, visited many planets and made a whole host of friends (and some enemies).
But if you thought it was all over after the TARDIS doors closed, and the time ship dematerialised, onto the next adventure, you’d be very much mistaken.
From Earth’s past, present and future, to the furthest reaches of the universe, here are ten tales that give us a glimpse into the worlds the Doctor left behind. Sometimes triumph, sometimes tragedy (and always chaos) these are stories you’ll never forget.
Three previously announced Doctor Who: Icons books will be out in paperback on October 24th, November 21st and April 24th. They see Thirteen meet Frida Kahlo, Ten meet Charles Darwin and the Silurians, and Fifteen meet Shirley Jackson.
These could potentially be interesting but also the sort of generic “filler” that this franchise sometimes likes to pump out.
