Maybe mine too!! It’s between this and the wild robot weirdly enough aha
For anyone that hasn’t seen the substance- I’m not sure I can outright recommend it to you if you’re unfamiliar simply because of the volume of content warnings that it would involve (obviously body horror, gore, but also lots of nudity). I think you have to be the sort of person to see the trailer and then if you know it’s for you, my god please go watch it, and it might just be one of your favourite films because it’s absolutely one of mine
I’ve found it hard to describe because it’s so gutteral, and it speaks to me in ways that are very personal to me. But ig it’s like a feminist dorian grey about womens beauty standards. Body horror doesn’t really do it justice, it’s more like body terror, body revulsion and I mean that in multiple ways. And it’s gonna haunt me for a while
I’ll definitely have to check it out. I thought the stage musical was amazing.
Here we are! In keeping with tradition, we watch our favourite Christmas movie “Tomten är far till alla barnen” (Santa is Father to All the Children; the official English title is “In Bed With Santa”) before seeing the stage play adaptation in Stockholm on Saturday! This is such a funny classic!
A rewatch of something I haven’t seen in years. Denzel & Hackman doing their thing. Tony Scott doing his thing. Hans Zimmer doing his thing. Such an entertaining movie.
Makes me want to pull out my German Bluray of Das Boot.
Ah yes I love that. Also The Hunt for Red October with Sean Connery as a Scottish Russian submarine captain lol
I got the German version because it is the fully uncut version.
- Director’s Cut (208 min.)
- the Original Cinema version (149 min.)
- complete TV Series in six parts (“The Original Uncut Version”, 308 min.)
It’s in my top 5 of all time.
I love The Hunt for Red October. The forgotten Jack Ryan film.
Putting this here because it’s movie related. Who on earth buys VHS in 2024? Me! But c’mon, they’re lovely.
Suspiria is one of my favourite films! That VHS is absolutely gorgeous
I have a hard time watching it. It is good but I get uncomfortable by all the misery.
Suspiria is so pretty. Such a good film too.
I’m on a few facebook VHS sale groups. I’ve picked a few choice pieces up over the past couple of years. I just need to get a ‘new’ tube TV.
Well, that is the point of course. And it is a very Swedish (and Scandinavian) movie. It was made in the late '90s, so it is a bit dated in some aspects. It’s not for everybody, but I love it.
Just wanted to drop this BlueSky thread here for you to check out. Ken Bentley (of Big Finish fame) runs a movie advent calendar, where he recommends a different movie every day until Christmas Day!
Annual rewatch of Nativity tonight and, by Coldstream’s Teeth, I love this film. The songs, the casting, the children, the jokes - it’s all so brilliant. Yes, there are some parts which require a suspension of disbelief, of course, but it makes me cry every time.
Martin Freeman is so believable as a primary school teacher and even if he would have been sacked on the spot for taking two children abroad without parental permission I can’t help but love Mr Maddens.
The joy I feel in the finale is unmatched by any other film.
(It’s just a shame they had to ruin it by turning it into a franchise - 2 is passable (although the safeguarding no-nos increase tenfold in that one) but 3 is so very very very bad its embarrassing. The fourth is entertaining enough but again, there are too many unbelievable real life aspects (that isn’t how social services works script writers).
But the original is perfection!
I love that film, the line where the reverend (??? it’s been a while since I watched, I forgot) says ‘a lie is a lie is a lie’ gets stuck in my head a lot lol. The first is definitely the best, though I like the second one too. And I did not know there were four
So now you’re using it as well! Good, my influence is spreading!
You’re loosing your teeth?
Yes, at the rate others are claiming things by my teeth, I’ll soon run out of them!
Pure cinema
