Hey everyone this is a ROADMAP post which means you can vote for ideas that you want to see sooner, this will help shape the future of the site!
This is an idea that would probably be Patrons only, because of how fiddly it might make things.
But the idea is that instead of having to choose between 4.0 and 4.5, maybe you could rate a story a 4.3?
It would not be as quick to rate things, as you’d have a lot longer list to choose from, so perhaps it’s something you only do every now and then? But it would be useful for people who are very particular about their ratings!
What do you think? Any ideas how this could work? Maybe VOTE on it if you like it
Wouldn’t bother me to have more than 10 increments. I don’t really see the point of being nitpicky enough to quibble over a 3.5 or a 3.6 rating. What does that even mean?
I’m already vague enough with ratings– there are stories I’ve rated 7/10 that I genuinely like more than stories I’v rated 8/10, for example– that more precise rating would definitely not work for me personally, I think.
Well, I’m usually very nitpicky about ratings. I have a lot of stories rated at 8/10, but there are huge differences between them - some are closer to a 7 and others are closer to a 9. So this could be interesting. Then again, I have always been perfectly fine with a 10-point system on other platforms, but I can then use the review space to explain my opinion further or have a list where I rank the stories for better accuracy. So while this could be useful, it’s not something I necessarily need.
I think there will always be stories stuck between different ratings, no matter how precise you make it. And I think that after like these ten points it just gets more confusing
Well yes, but those would be 3.75 and 4.75 on TARDIS Guide, and it’s not possible to give those ratings right now
And sometimes I might feel that The Day of the Doctor is only a 9.9/10 (or a 4.9/5) because Tennant’s hair is flat in it. Giving it 4.5 for Tennant’s flat hair feels wrong, whereas 4.9 feels right because it’s just a very minor quibble.
