We recently launched Prerequisites which allows us to show a notice if there are required stories you have not yet completed.
I’ve gone through and added all that I can think of for TV stories, and have also added all the two-part Audio Dramas that I’m aware of.
Please use this topic to discuss any prerequisites I should add. Please only talk about stories which absolutely must be completed in order - not “suggestions” or “extra lore”, those can be added but it’s not my main focus at the moment.
I’ve turned on “post voting” so people can upvote the ones they think are valid and downvote ones which are incorrect. Let’s try it!
Please only reply with actual Prerequisites. You can use the “comment” feature for other comments!
Hooklight 1 should be a prerequisite for Hooklight 2, and The Last Day Part One should be a requirement for The Last Day Part Two.
Spoilers for Helter Skelter - Field of Miracles should be a prerequisite for Land of Fools

Added Hooklight and The Last Day. If the other one is a spoiler, should it be added?
Looking at the Eighth Doctor Big Finish stories right now:
Storm Warning should be a prerequisite for The Chimes of Midnight and Neverland, given how both deal with the fact that Charley should have died in Storm Warning
Neverland should be a prerequisite for Zagreus, which should itself be a prerequisite for Scherzo
maybe im misremembering but i think charleys weirdness is somewhat explained in the chimes of midnight? so im not sure it fits the strict defintion needed, i also say this because ive had friends who have never interacted with the 8th doctor (or even doctor who at all) listen just to the chimes of midnight and theyve loved it all the same, but i would agree on the Neverland->Zagreus->Scherzo line
You might be right there, I'll admit that it's been some time since I listened to that set of audios. I suppose if people were able to understand the story without Storm Warning, then it's not a necessity.
I think people can understand Chimes and Neverland without Storm Warning, so I've left those off. I've done Neverland to Scherzo and Space/Time. I don't think the other minisodes, whilst they are a set together, really require each other? You could watch in any order and still get it I think!
I started listening to Torchwood Soho recently and was completely baffled when Andy showed up because I had no prior knowledge of his and Norton’s relationship or the fact that he was now (kinda) working for Torchwood.
Obviously this depends on other people’s thoughts on it, but I think it would be a worthwhile addition. Thanks!

I’ve added those as “suggested” (as opposed to “required”). Thanks!
I started reviewing my profile and here are some missing audio prerequisites:
Ravenous 4: Day of the Master - Part 1 > Day of the Master - Part 2
Ravenous 2: Better Watch Out > Fairytale of Salzburg
6DA Sixth and Hebe: Chronomancer > Broadway Belongs to Me! > Purification > Time Burst > Girl in a Bubble > The Corruptions > The Wrong Side of History
War Master Box Set 2: Call for the Dead > The Glittering Prize > Sins of the Father
War Master Box Set 1: The Good Master > The Sky Man > The Heavenly Paradigm
Torchwood One Box Set 1: New Girl > Through the Ruins > Uprising

I'm not sure if Day of of Master needs to be prerequisites of each other since it's clearly titled Part 1 and Part 2 and they're in the same boxset. Same with the War Master boxsets. I'd expect that someone listening to these for the first time, because they'd have to purchase the whole boxset to listen to even one story, would be listening to the whole boxset. Unless they really didn't like the first story and decided not to finish the boxset, I'd imagine they'll be listening to them in order.
The Mysterious Planet → Mindwarp → Terror of the Vervoids → The Ultimate Foe → Trial of the Valeyard (The Trial of a Time Lord arc, plus Trial of the Valeyard which is a sequel to The Ultimate Foe)
Remembrance of the Daleks → Terror Firma (Terror Firma is a sequel to Remembrance of the Daleks)
Colditz → A Thousand Tiny Wings → Klein’s Story → Survival of the Fittest → The Architects of History → UNIT Dominion (stories that focus on the character Elizabeth Klein)
Horror of Glam Rock → The Zygon Who Fell to Earth → Death in Blackpool (Auntie Pat trilogy)
It's related to half the comic. The Keys of Marinus as a Voord story should be there too but it's not required, I suppose. Day of The Doctor might be somewhere to avoid spoilers but also not important to things in the same way. End of Time Part 2 and Wedding of River Song are related too right? They are sort of needed in the same way.
I did read that comic before having seen Dark Water, and while that part did confuse me, it wasn’t made much clearer after seeing the episode. Similar to any of the other references like to Wedding and various Voord appearances, it was obvious I was missing something, but it didn’t make anything incomprehensible. The context of “this is a moment where the Doctor was feeling real bad” was enough. It’s not like the comic builds very strongly on the TV episodes, they’re more ideas it vaguely extrapolates from. And even then, they explain each situation to the other characters that need to know.
Apparently Dark Water hadn't come out yet when they were writing it which is why it was vague on the details or something in the first few issues. I thought it was pretty clear that it was an alternate history stemming from that moment judging by the other two, but I suppose it's not obvious. Also, yeah you have a point on the explanations part.
"All tv two parters" -> Yes I've already said I've done those. "Series finales should have stuff related to that series arc as a prerequisite too" -> That's a bit too subjective... And as for The Last Day, surely the different coloured arrows have different meanings? Gonna need more info
Is it necessary for multi part stories in a single boxset or multi part stories that are part of an overarching narrative to be marked? I have listened to some later stories in boxsets/series before the earlier ones, but I imagine about 99% of people haven’t. The first two parts of Dalek Universe are a two-parter, but the whole series is one continuous narrative, so not sure if suggesting prerequisites like that is very necessary.

I don't think it's necessary when something is really obviously part of a continuous narrative, BUT this is used so the Recommendation Engine (which is nearly ready) doesn't recommend you the last part of a story and you dive in with no knowledge.
Ah, okay then. I think the ending two parter of the Timejacked boxset would benefit from this. That’s Split Second/The Weight of History. The whole set is one larger story, but those last two are just a single script with a cliffhanger sting inbetween. Additionally: when making suggestions, would it be preferable to do separate suggestions in separate comments to make voting easier, or would it be better to put it all in one to avoid clutter?
The Coming of The Queen has no prerequisites but it is a prerequisite to Erimem: The Last Pharoah, I’d say. For one, all of her memories were wiped up to until shortly after that story ended (epilogue chapter also semi-useful for context of character from later books and this one but not for Erimem; she doesn’t remember it.).
But then again, for all I know the last audio with her (I gather a Peladon one) is one of those for The Last Pharoah too… I wouldn’t know, I’m doing prose-only Erimem before starting her audios eventually.
I think Series 1 should all be linked together, series 2 should be linked, series 3 should be linked, series 4 should be linked, series 11 should definitely be linked
5.1 could need whichever TV episode establishes that, if the universe asks, the Doctor is tooottally dead
Series 6 should probably have the relevant TV episodes linked (I’ve only seen half of them, and the ones linked to the episodes I hadn’t seen were definitely less interesting/I got a little bit lost with)
7.4 could arguably have 5.2 as a prerequisite for Luke, but imo you get enough within the episode
2.2 > 8.1 > 8.2 should be a chain for Rachel
Series 9 could be linked, but I think each stands alone well enough
10.4 should have Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Arguably, series 12 could all need Angels Take Manhattan, and 12.4 needs 3.4
Added Hooklight and The Last Day. If the other one is a spoiler, should it be added?
– shaunyIt's a difficult one - the fact that they're connected is a massive spoiler, but it very much is a part two for the prior story
