I’m thinking about THEM again, guys. I may have hit rock bottom.
No, but I’m joking slightly. I love Jack and Ianto so much. I know people argue that Jack x the Doctor is better or Jack x Angelo or whatever, but I feel like people often miss the fantastic dynamic and chemistry Jack and Ianto have with one another? That’s why they fit so well. They understand each other in a way no one ever really has, even if they’re bad at expressing that.
They mean a lot to me and the brainrot’s taking over.
What corner of the internet are you in? I’ve literally never seen anyone talk about them. Most people haven’t even watched Miracle Day. On the other hand, Janto is completely inescapable.
I mean, I mainly see stuff about them when I find myself in the editing side of the Torchwood community. It’s kind of interesting! I have my own thoughts about Angelo in general, but that’s not the point lmao.
I like Ianto a lot. He’s tied with Gwen as my favourite original Torchwood team member.
I love that he had a fling with Jack, because of the representation for LGBTQA+ people.
However.
I’ve always been a bit unsure if I like them as a couple. I don’t think Jack is good enough for Ianto. Jack is a bit of a player, also a bit of a Homewrecker, and Ianto is adorable.
I’d like to see Ianto get another male love interest at some point. But he said in CoE that he didn’t like men he just liked Jack. (I haven’t listened to any recent audios with him in yet).
I like Jack and Ianto’s relationship best when it’s messy. I don’t think they really understand each other. I think Ianto is very good at sensing Jack’s moods and whims, but I don’t think he understands them. I think they’re too fundamentally different, but that’s part of what I like about them.
Or maybe I just don’t like fluff very much and am annoyed with parts of the fandom that flatten and woobify them into the “perfect gay couple”.
Oh no I’m 100% with you on that, relationships (in fiction) are at their most interesting when there’s conflict and drama and mess, and Jack and Ianto are absolutely this.
I absolutely love fluff, but fluff can’t be good without conflict! They are by no means perfect, but that’s a part of the chemistry. I’d have more of a problem if they had… well… no problems.
