Not to derail my own thread but I also thought in s8 and onwards, Brax’s ‘evilness’ towards Benny feels very deliberately perfomed like EVAtrice to Ange… so I drew Brax cosplaying EVAtrice!

Im sorry to hear about the mental health issues, i hope things do get better for you! Im currently on episode 4 of umineko ( I need to get back to it… I’ve been slacking fr) ! Its brilliant and I can definitely see what you mean about the similarities between Brax and Beatrice (with the little experience and knowledge i have about both characters thus far) the meta textual elements of Umi are also something I find to be done very similarly to a lot of Wilderness Years DW novels! Such a cool series can’t wait to continue and complete it one day! And do more Braxiatel content( I recently finished theatre of war!)

AHH sorry I assumed you had finished Umineko!! I think I may have spoiled a bit for for you there… but it IS a very good series, ‘without love it can’t be seen’ is such a bleak phrase in the series itself while being endlessly inspiring at the same time. I took a dive back into the Bennys after I finished Umineko with that mindset and was so surprised by how much more subtext I can discover??

Oc f!brax (who is just brax if they decided to transition into presenting as a woman after twilight of the gods, her story is roughly the same as canon Brax except that Brax has to face her friends and political rivals as a woman now, which would make things very different because all Braxes are big on assuming power through their presented image, and now that she can no longer rule over the collection as a patriarch her self assumed role in the story would change too)
And f!Brax and Maggie (Brax’s canonical daughter) as Rosa and Maria from the end of Umineko ep2! I think Brax projects a lot of his/her self hatred on Maggie similar to how Rosa projects her failures in life (and guilt about Beatrice) on Maria… (@Voyxger

…which in canon itself is like, coerced marriage and sexual assault on Brax played for laughs, but with f!brax and male!Veronica it’s different/worse because while Braxes can wave off assault on their physical body and disassociate their way out of their trauma, being coerced into a marriage and almost becoming a housewife of some random dude will do so much more damage to f!brax’s presented image of an impenetrable leader if Brax is a man
Although BS (the Bennys) is not a series that deals in a lot of realistic societal issues, it still touches a lot on gender dynamics by the virtue of the protagonist/Benny being a woman. In @atsonian canon, brax does not involve himself a lot in that discussion because he’s an alien. But from a Doylist lens it’s his presentation as a man that allows him the leisure to avoid those themes. So I think if Brax chose to present as a woman at the start of collection era, things would be a lot different for her (in particular stories relating to sexual assault i.e. Braxiatel in Love and The Wake, which I think are narrative parallels)
