Introducing: The Multiverse!

It’s ironic, this is one of the biggest updates I’ve ever built for TARDIS Guide and yet I’m hoping if all goes well you’ll barely notice any change… but it means big things for the future!

TLDR: I’ve changed where your login credentials are stored. When you login or do things like change your password, you’ll be doing it on multiverse.guide instead. No other changes yet!

TARDIS Guide is just the beginning… people have been clamouring for me to create new sites based on different topics/franchises, and the work on that has begun now!

But I didn’t want people to have to have multiple logins across these sites, as eventually they will interact with each other. So the very first step in making them all work together is to create a central login system that sits above everything else.

I call it the Multiverse.

Here is the logo! It’s a portal into other worlds, and your key to unlocking them all.

You can visit it at https://multiverse.guide

Your accounts have all been ported over. There’s nothing you need to do. Just wait and watch this space for the other sites which are in progress

Here’s a little diagram I did to explain it!

(Yes those are logos of sites being currently worked on…!)

A few FAQS:

Have you sold out to a multibillion corporation?
Nope. It’s just me, and the mods here, all chipping in to make cool site for you to enjoy!

What other sites are being worked on?
We aren’t quite ready to announce them yet but stay tuned for more details.

What if I want a different username for each site?
This was a difficult one, many of you have chosen very Doctor Who-related usernames, and probably wouldn’t use the same ones if it was a site for tracking some other franchise. So I’m going to be building in a feature which means you get a Display Name that is separate to your username (usernames cannot be changed). Keep an eye out for that.

How will Patron subscriptions work?
The current plan is to have patron subscriptions work per-site, so you can choose which sites to support.

Will there be forums for every other site?
This all depends on demand, and if I can get help moderating the other forums.

Does this mean you’re abandoning TARDIS Guide?
Not at all! In fact I did this because it means all updates done to another site can be also applied to TARDIS Guide. All the sites will benefit from every change, from the perspective of new users we will attract and, hopefully, from the funds we get from new Patrons who maybe don’t like Doctor Who but do like something else.

Is there an ETA for this?
No! It will be ready when it’s ready.

All of this is extremely exciting and I can’t wait to see how the Multiverse grows.

(Not sure my family is going to be that impressed when I spend even more time on ‘the Guide’ though…)

This is really awesome! I’m secretly hoping one of those is a Star Wars guide, that would be so cool!

Wow, now I am wondering what new Guides we will get  @deltaandthebannermen you should have just waited until we got a Blake’s 7 Guide

Forums for other Guides? Personally not sure, there may be plenty of repetition.

But it’s exciting to see all the hard work & features of this Guide being applied to other fandoms!

I was thinking, if possible, having categories on this forum that people could opt in or out of. If they opt in, they’ll be able to see all the threads for that specific franchise category, and if they opt out, it’ll be like it never existed. Having multiple forums could lead to burnout I think from people feeling the need to check all the forums, all the time.

I am brutally excited about this. The Tardis Guide system seems by far the best one I have seen when it comes to rating things. I am crossing my fingers for the blue guide on the right to be DC Guide. :folded_hands:

PD: It is incredible that Shauny wants to make 2 more guides and probably more in the future. Your work is excellent, you have my respect.

Agree 100%, maybe the TARDIS Guide forum gets rebranding the Multiverse forum?

I’m not sure if the forum software we use has that function but it’s a good idea.

FOMO is a terrible affliction.

But I ain’t getting in between fans of other franchises when they have an argument. Doctor Who fans are trouble enough.

Fingers crossed for a Star Trek Guide :crossed_fingers:t2:

Would love to keep track of things on there.

Sounds interesting, a Star Wars one could be very good, there is so much Star Wars stuff out there at this point.

We live in the Shaunyverse.

Shauny-Man: Into the Multiverse.guide is one of my favourite movies. It will be, in any case. Must hedge my bets.

This. Is. Fantastic!

I’m one of those hoping that Star Trek is the next Guide; but whatever it is, I’ve no doubt it will delight fans of that franchise every bit as much as this site delights all of us mad Whovians. Thank you so much to everyone involved!

This 100000%. I don’t see the need to have separate forums for the other Guides, especially since the content will be similar. Just have separate sections for this forum so that you can choose if you want to interact with the DW side or some of the other franchises. And then there could be a general side for everyone. Maybe rebrand this as Multiverse Forum or something like that.

Because I know I would definitely feel the need to check all the forums, and my brain, my marriage and my work really can’t handle that

my idea :light_bulb:

Ok I never really thought of combining them, but I could possibly…

Haha, I had written my post before seeing your idea and chuckled a bit when I noticed that you had the same idea. So I guess it’s a good one
