The biggest problem is that different versions of a book might have different numbers of pages.

This is why tracking by percentage is the most efficient. That takes into account variations in page count. It requires the user to do some basic math (unless they are using an e-reader that does the math for them), but I think it’s good to keep that brain active once in a while

I definitely don’t think it should automatically queue up the next item. If you are working on more than one ‘project’ you might not immediately be going on to the next box set/book/story in sequence.

I’m going to have to completely change how the buttons on a story work:
There are too many, and there are now buttons which kind of do the same thing. It’s going to need a complete rethink as it was originally based on the Letterboxd model (you either completed it or you didn’t), and now it’s going to be more like GoodReads / Storygraph (you can be partway through it).
I know some people do not like change, so I am thinking of originally making it opt-in for existing users.
Lots of work to do!

You can do this but it might also be hard to maintain. My suggestion is that you do this to everyone. They will get over it.

Are there buttons there that would be better placed somewhere else? Like, do we need an ‘Add Review’ button there when it is accessible by the reviews bit.

OK so I had a bit of a eureka moment (not in the bath…) when I realised what the issue is:
I’ve always wanted the button to both be an indication of whether you’ve completed it or not, AND an action button to mark it as completed.
That is why I was struggling to find the right wording.
I’ve gone back to the drawing board and replaced it with a text header that shows whether or not you’ve completed it, so the button can be the “mark as completed” button which makes the most sense:
Then other, less frequently used actions appear in the dropdown:
That “Start listening” is if you want to track the progress as you go - useful for books or long audio dramas, etc.
I will also have a setting that will reverse those buttons, so “start listening” is the default, and “mark completed” is the option under the dropdown.
Once you start reading, it shows your progress here:
You can either update your progress or mark it as completed in a single click.
Once you have completed it, it shows you dates which you can edit, and how many repeats you’ve done, and you can log a repeat easily:

Shauny, my man! This looks amazing! It’s not only closer to Goodreads than Letterboxd in functionality, but also in design now, and that’s not a bad thing. It looks slicker, takes up less space, and has all the essentials just one click away!
The fact that it is customisable too makes it very unique compared to how other tracking sites do it.
