I think I’ll relisten to part 1 just before part 2, the day or two before.
Just completed Hooklight 1 earlier today and it’s one of the more engrossing stories I’ve heard from BF as of late, it’s one of those stories that really shows why audio is such a great medium for Doctor Who, I mean you likely couldn’t do that sort of worldbuilding within the confines of a TV story.
After listening to this, Hooklight 2 quickly became one of my most anticipated releases this year.
So hard to resist the temptation to listen to that trailer. I want to, but I also really want to go into Part 2 with no idea what will happen next.
Definitely excited for Part 2 to release!
Just finished a second listen to parts 5 and 6, and I think I enjoyed this even more than the first time through - without having to keep track of all the new characters and settings, it was much easier to appreciate just how well-done everything is. I think the biggest compliment I can pay is that if this weren’t a Doctor Who story, it honestly wouldn’t make a difference to me, because the characters and the setting are so vivid and compelling. Something I think Tim Foley does really well (amongst, well, everything) is constructing really strong mental images through his writing - I found it incredibly easy to picture a lot of the different settings, scenes and characters here, such as the arrival at the dark forge, for example. He has this great way of having characters describe the environment and what they’re doing without making it obvious, which is a real asset for an audio drama.
Of course, the actual Doctor Who bits are great as well! Everyone gets something to do, and the main cast all give brilliant performances. I think I enjoyed Adric’s exploits with Davlin the most - it is great to hear him come into his own a bit in this story, especially given how ill-used he was in season 19 on screen. Nyssa’s Frodo-esque role also gives Sarah Sutton the opportunity to demonstrate her range, with Janet Fielding as Tegan getting some good moments too (although she probably gets the least focus of the main cast - given what happens at the end of part 6, presumably she will have a bigger role in the remaining parts). And as ever, Peter Davison is such a joy to listen to - his audio performances in the past few years have been just brilliant, and I honestly think they surpass any of his on-screen stories - he brings this amazing mixture of openness, grumpiness and cheeky impishness to the role, and he has rocketed up my list of favourite Doctors over the past few months.
That’s all without even touching on “the Oracle”, or the fact that this only represents the first half of a 6 hour(!) story! This saga really is a Doctor Who event, and if the remaining parts are as good as these, this honestly has a pretty good shot of making my all-time top five - in short, bring on the second half!
Guys this is coming in a few days,i will be relistening to part 1 shortly
I did part one again yesterday, and I’m going to keep going so I get to part 6 on Wednesday, then I can binge Hooklight 2 on Thursday.
Wow, is it already here soon?!
I’ll try relisten…
There is no way I have the time or brain focus for a relisten so I’ll just read a synopsis if I need a refresher
I really hope we get a “previously” segment
I hope the previously on is just the scene where Adric gets shot that would be funny
I still have not bought this lmao
So excited for tomorrow!
Same!
