'His days like crazy paving ...'

Hello, this is my first post here. A very old, long-time Who fan here, both of the television iteration and the Big Finish audios (in fact, at the moment, I prefer the audios to the current TV show!). As I post, Big Finish have just got their website up and running after a few ‘issues’ and … gosh, I’ve missed them!

Nice to have landed here.

Welcome! It’s so good that the audios exist because there is such a variety for every kind of fan.

Which audios are your favourite?

I’ve been collecting the darn things since 1999, when Big Finish first advertised in DWM with ‘You’ve Never Heard it so Good.’ A much better tag, IMO, than ‘For the love of stories!’

Currently, I love the War Doctor stuff. In fact, I’m a big fan of all the recast Doctor’s stories. Tim Treloar in particular is phenomenal! I have Deathworld sitting in my account now and can’t wait to dive in.

Of the classic Docs, I think 6 and 7’s stories have gone off the boil a bit, which is a shame, but Doctor 5 is still delivering the goods. BF has really made the most of his TARDIS team.

Other stuff includes Sherlock Holmes, Blake’s 7, Dorian Gray, The Prisoner, The Avengers, Torchwood, the much-missed Dark Shadows and Sapphire and Steel.

Blake’s 7, the show that also exists in the whoniversie? I’ve never had time to check upon that, is it any good?

Blake’s 7 is great especially if you like 70s Who (there’s a lot of crossover in directors, writers, designers and actors). BF’s audios of the series are also excellent.

Welcome @Napp - great to have you here. I was also there at the start of BF and so too also qualify as an old long time fan

Welcome! Shall I expect to see you around the audio club?

Thanks for all these lovely replies.

I’m still working my way around this site, but the audio club sounds very much like something I’d be interested in. I listen to Big F mostly, but also Bafflegab (they’ve done some wonderful horror stories). Also, Textbook Stuff - does anyone remember that? Barnaby Edwards’s ‘baby’. Short-lived but exceptional listening.

As for Blake’s 7 - the show (and audios) have never referenced Doctor Who, but it was created by Terry Nation who, at one stage, wanted to bring The Daleks into it!

Tom Baker also suggested to Gareth Thomas, who played Blake, that their two characters should meet up with each other in an episode. Just a brief ‘Hello, Roj’/‘Hello, Doctor’ moment and then moving on - I would have loved that, but the BBC wouldn’t allow it!

At present we actually have four clubs. The Audio Club is currently working through the Main Range/Monthly Adventures with a new thread every Friday. The TV Club is alternating between Classic Series and New Series with a new episode every Monday. The Book Club is working through the VNAs and NSAs with a new VNA dropping on the 15th and a new NSA dropping on the 1st. Finally, the Comic Club is working through the Titan Comics with a new thread every other Wednesday.

Thanks for that, Darth.

I like much of the post-2005 Who, and just about all of the classic TV stuff. So I’ll be dipping into these.

And there’s no time limit or order on dipping into any of the club threads. You can jump in and out of any of them.

It is linked to the Whoniverse though in the expanded media by the character of Carnell from Weapon. He appears in Corpse Marker by Chris Boucher.

Now that’s something I wasn’t aware of - thank you.

I remember someone from one of Benny’s story loved Blake’s 7 so not only do they exist in the Whoniversie, so does the show lol

In all honesty, this is how I’ve felt from the moment I go into BigFinish back in 2016. I think it also helps that their back catalogue is so extensive that you have tons of variety.

Anyway, welcome aboard Napp!

Yep, that sounds entirely reasonable to me!

And thank you!
