Help With The Faction Paradox

Could someone please explain the Faction Paradox to me, I’m very confused

In a nutshell, it’s a voodoo cult from a future war between Gallifrey and The Enemy that thrives on paradoxes using Gallifreyan tech disgued as voodoo ritual. They first appeared in the novel Alien Bodies by Lawrence Miles (https://tardis.guide/story/alien-bodies/). Alien Bodies is very good, if a bit weird, and is the start of a loose arc in the first half of the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures novel series. Faction Paradox itself has gone on to live a full live as a canon-adjacent series of books and audios from, I think, Mad Norwegian Press.

Here’s a link: https://www.factionparadox.co.uk/ The Spiral Politic Database is helpful!

Yeah, they initially appeared in Lawrence Miles’ EDAS Alien Bodies and Interference, along with a few more EDAs. After the events of The Ancestor Cell they split off into their own continuity, chronicled in:

  • a short series of novels from Mad Norwegian Press
  • a series of audio dramas from BBV, The Faction Paradox Protocols (starring Justine and Eliza, my beloveds)
  • a second series of audio dramas from Magic Bullet (producers of Kaldor City) called The True History of Faction Paradox
  • an ongoing series of novels and short story anthologies from Obverse Books.

There are also oddities like a single novel published by Random Static in the wilderness years between MNP and Obverse, and the extremely short lived comic series.

It’s a really creative and bizarre corner of the Whoniverse! I’d recommend Alien Bodies if you’re interested, followed by the Protocols or, if you can find it, The Book of the War.

I wrote this before scrolling down and seeing @nyssaoftraken’s post. It says mostly the same stuff in a different way, sorry about that.

The Faction Paradox series is primarily comprised of books, anthologies and audios.
The books were originally published by Mad Norwegian Press (including The Book of the War which is a really cool book that almost acts as and RPG sourcebook in terms of worldbuilding), then (briefly) Random Static, then Obverse Books who still publish them to this day, alongside the anthologies.
The original run of audios (The Faction Paradox Protocols) were produced by BBV Productions. Magic Bullet then did a run called The True History of Faction Paradox which is a direct continuation. Both of these are good and worth listening to. More recently, BBV did some more audios, some of which are good, most of which aren’t. I believe that there will be more audios soon from a different company.
There was also a short-lived comic from Image Comics. Sadly, it was canceled after 2 issues.
At the same time as the more recent audios, BBV also did a handful of live action video releases. They’re not worth anyone’s time.

Is this a pass at Big Fin(n)ish :joy:

I don’t think so. It’s the publisher that produces/produced a large chunk of Faction Paradox, the aHistory series and the About Time series.
