Hello!
I’m researching the many, many variants of the Doctor, and hope that the fandom hive mind might be able to provide information about a few that I’m stuck with…
Does anyone know anything about the following spoofs/parodies:
- In the 1970s, Dave Allen at Large “featured several Doctor Who parodies”. I’m aware of a sketch (available online) where a priest is chased by a baptismal font behaving like a Dalek - but does anyone remember (or know where to find) any further Doctor Who-related sketches?
- According to DWM 462, French and Saunders shot a Doctor Who-inspired sketch for their 2007 series A Bucket o’ French and Saunders, but it was never shown because the series was curtailed due to poor ratings. Does anyone know anything about its content, or the existence of footage/photographs? (This is separate from the 1990s ‘Silurian Disruption’ sketch that was filmed for French & Saunders, but was only ever released on home video with some Doctor Who stories)
- In The Illustrated Weekly Hudd, 1967, Roy Hudd played the 1st Doctor in the style of Ken Dodd. The series was wiped, but does, perhaps, audio exist?
- Also Roy Hudd-related: I’m aware of two Doctor Who parody sketches on his News Huddlines radio show, one relating to Bonnie Langford (c. 1986), and one in which the Doctor regenerated from “a dirty old man” to a “sex-crazed old biddy” (played, I think, by June Whitfield). Does anyone know which episodes these sketches took place in, and whether there were any others?
- Is there a list/episode guide anywhere that details all of the Doctors that have been featured in the radio and TV versions of Dead Ringers?
- In the late 1960s a sketch in The Jimmy Tarbuck Show had Tarbuck playing the Doctor, and possibly featured Cilla Black - does this still exist?
I’m also in the market for leads about any other similarly super-obscure apocryphal Doctors that anyone might be aware of!
Thank you.
PS Not quite the same, but does anyone know anything about Welcome Stabec (or Croeso Stabec), 1990: “Seven short film […] for Year 5 and 6 pupils to help them develop Welsh language skills”, which featured an apparently Dr Who-like crash-landed alien…?
