Can’t possibly let there be a Capaldi birthday thread and ignore the fact the April 13th was Peter Davison’s birthday!
Happy (belated) Birthday Mr Davison!

Happy (belated) Birthday Mr Davison!
I’m going through 5’s audio so quickly lately. Can’t get enoigh Peter Davison’s performance!
I was really in a Five mood the other day so I watched a few episodes - I think he’s underrated by me very often, I always enjoy his TV stories more than I think I do
I think with the issues with Davison are that he’s very reactive to the situations he finds himself in, and he’s looked at as an anti-Tom Baker and a reaction against Tom’s OTT performance. Also, in audio, it takes a while for him to find his footing and get good stories. His recent stuff has often been quite good and some of his later Main Range stuff is excellent (see Cradle of the Snake).
Pretty cool how both Peters had their Birthday in such a short succession. Of course, he is a great one, glad to see he is getting more Love these days!
Happy late birthday to Peter Davison!
Fifth Doctor is so criminally underrated. I’d already sampled most of the other Doctors before watching his era because of the lack of enthusiasm I saw for his run, and was surprised when he pretty much instantly became my favorite Doctor. S20-S21 are the episodes I tend to rewatch the most often out of the entire series.
Happy birthday to another of my favourite Doctors! I’ve also been on a bit of a Fifth Doctor kick lately (I’ve been listening through the Marc arc, with a few other audios nestled in as well) and it has really given me a greater appreciation for him and his era. He almost reminds me of Jon Pertwee in a way, as I think he is an actor who is naturally quite comedic (see his performance as Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small if you don’t know what I mean) who is to some extent forced to play the Doctor more seriously due to his predecessor. When he does let out his more comedic side, I think he really shines - there is a lovely exchange in Thin Time about the concept of phishing, and Davison delivers his lines in a way that really brought a smile to my face. Similarly, when he is given the opportunity to take a more active role in a story, he also delivers a great performance (the famous part three cliffhanger in The Caves of Androzani being the obvious example)
In terms of recommendations, I would go for Earthshock, The Five Doctors and The Caves of Androzani on TV and Spare Parts, The Merfolk Murders, Hooklight and the 2014 Fifth Doctor adventures boxset on audio.
