My biggest miss was The Well- My lowest expectation was The Well and the ratings even went below that with The Reality War which was just unexpected. Congrats to everyone! I don’t want to be overly negative about this but I think I might pause watching Doctor Who on TV until RTD leaves OR the ratings improve because I can’t go through with another heartbreak (and it’s not the good kind of heartbreak).
While talking about ratings it’s also so so disappointing that the highest rating from the 15th Doctor run is only 4.09 with Boom while freaking Wild Blue Yonder has a 4.31 rating. It’s just absolutely f#cked up that from Series 1 to Series 10 each Doctor had a peak story… except 13 and 15. 13 is getting her redemption at Big Finish but 15? Will Ncuti ever do Big Finish? Would be a very positive surprise if he did but it’s just leaves this sour taste in my mouth for now. What do you guys think about the recent ratings? Do you guys think it represents the show well? Sorry for ranting a little bit but thought it goes with the topic well-
I think they are fine for the Moment, I am sure they will change and morph over Time, some get higher (73 Yards, The Story & the Engine) and some lower. It being the current Era probably plays a big Part in it, after all I feel like we as a Fandom are more critical of the current than the old. I will say I don’t fully agree with some of the average Rating but then again it’s a subjective matter really.
I honestly think it’s a little premature to pause watching Doctor Who on TV, just simply because Doctor Who isn’t on TV right now and we don’t know when it will. I’d say just wait for it to be announced that it’s coming back, and at that point, decide if you want to watch it then, personally…
I genuinely don’t know at this point. I gave him 2 seasons of chance (even though those were written around the same time) and I genuinely don’t know if he can learn… I heard people saying he’s blocking people on instagram who try to give him any feedback so I dunno- if he announces any time that he wrote the next 3 seasons at the same… welp that’s when you know he didn’t learn a thing. And I’m sorry if I sound pessimistic but I tried to be so optimistic about Series 15 but that just lead me being even more disappointed than the previous series.
There is the spin-off that might be delayed to next year. I will watch them once the ratings settled but you guys have fun!
Font forget that different people feel like different types of episodes work best for them. While I am not that big fan of the 13th Doctor there are a lot of people that are. Just look at this forum. There are people who addore almost every episode that she is is in and that is great.
I love the 15th Doctor and there are a lot of episodes that I feel like a lot of episodes could be classics but it is just too soon to tell.
I would do this as well. I have huge respect for all showrunners. It must be an awful job and either way the comment section of Instagram is an awful place to look for feedback.
Just largely I feel like it’s too early to say that you are pausing watching Season 3 when it comes out in, say, 2030, since how you feel now might not be how you feel in 2030. I don’t think Season 3 is coming particularly soon.
I also tend to feel like both season 1 + 2 had major rewrites that hurt them, but that’s a separate topic…
oh definitely- I feel like Demons of the Punjab is an underrated gem in ratings and some of the current episodes should also be higher- it is too soon to tell but then there were episodes like Hell Bent and Blink that you could talk at the time they are going to be classics. So what happened?
…from the people trying to give a writer feedback via Instagram. I shouldn’t expect much of it was given in good grace or is particularly constructive.
I’m not surprised he has blocked them, frankly. I don’t see that as a negative against RTD even in the slightest.
I was listening to Georgia Tennant’s interview with David where they chat about how he doesn’t use social media at all. I’d say he has the right idea.
I really do kinda suspect a lot of celebrities/writers/showrunners/etc… either only go on their social media to post things (or have someone who does that for them), and if they do go on social media, do so under an alt of some sort.
One thing I’d imagine would be frustrating is that we can only guess what was going on behind the scenes, but RTD knows, and he’s not going to say “Yeah, that’s exactly what I originally planned to do before I couldn’t use Millie as the companion for season two and Gatwa left. I’m amazed at how well this hangs together after all the last minute rewrites, actually.”…
