I loved the function and idea behind the website since it was in beta, or- what not. Since there was a google drive version. It’s very useful to keep track of audios and stories.
I’m Emil, 21, using mixed pronouns of all kinds, mostly She/her and He/Him.
I’ve loved Doctor Who since seventh grade- gave in to my friend’s pestering to catch up on this “cool new show”, which was then in its sixth season- a week before my bat mitzvah trip to london, and cried watching Doomsday in the AirBnb.
Nowadays 60s and 70s Who is my favorite, and the Twelfth Doctor’s era, which I watched live as a teen, and meant a lot to me as a queer kid, close second.
I met my partner while in second doctor cosplay at a convention- ask me about my recorder! Though I can’t guarantee I’ll stop yapping. This silly stick has brought me so much joy that if I had the chance to shake mr troughton’s hand it would be for music first and tv second.
Excited to see the community here!
Ah, I am soo glad you asked!
Here she is, a beautiful nameless thing- too special for a name. A real 60s-70s vintage, Ordinary Soprano with German Fingering- I bought her at the flea market, before I’d even found any other part of the cosplay, since I figured there’s no point to it if I don’t get one of these.
She was a bit chipped even before I, um- Kept dropping her, but definitely can still carry a tune. Real wood sounds much lovelier than plastic!
I really only ever meant to learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but- I ended up falling in love with the feeling of making and learning music, and started playing almost every day, including at work breaks and such. I don’t do it as much any more, but it’s still a delight, and gets a lot of interesting and sweet attention. Here is also my notes-book where I collect tunes I like, either copied from the web, translated from solfege (ABC is easier) or transribed by ear with some trial and error. Got it signed by Frasier Hines at gallifrey one last year!
Just this morning I finally learned the bit from the background of Fool on the Hill by the Beatles, which is a sort of second-doctor-y song. I try to have at least one song vaguely related to any cosplay I do.
I also have a C and D tin whistles but I just tinker with them occasionally, they don’t quite scratch the same itch.
Welcome! My bat mitzvah was actually Doctor Who themed! It was pretty small, basically just me and my family who know nothing about Doctor Who, but I had an extremely fun time. I started watching a bit earlier, but I also watched 12 live as a teen. Doctor Who meant a lot to me as a queer kid as well. I’m still trying to get into more classic who (real life keeps getting in the way rip).
Hehe! I struggled to get into it at all until COVID, then got through the first season, enjoyed it but not enough to click, forgot it for a few years and came back a bit more ready to pick and choose- found the correct doctor to hook me on the whole thing and then took off In Order from there.
(happily claps at two mention) Have you seen Enemy of the World yet? One of my absolute favorites. I think it captures certain more new-who sensibilities in its morality and plotty subtelties. And it exists in full, 6 episodes of video!
