I must admit, I am a bit surprised how there hasn’t been a Thread for Pokémon yet, so Time to change that!
Feel free to discuss anything relating to Pokémon, be it the Animes, the Games, the Spin-Offs or even the Plushes!
And to start this thread off: How did you start with Pokémon? What was your first Generation? Your first Starter?
For me, personally speaking, I actually started with the third Generation on the GBA with the good ol Mudkip (still in my Opinion the best Starter!) I still would count this Generation as my favorite (although Nostalgia probably does play a big Part in this), but really it’s just a blast of a Generation!
Hope you enjoy! I definitely recommend to check out some earlier Generations, if you are enjoying yourself! (Gen 3-5 are easily the ones that I recommend almost everybody.
Very excited to hear what your Opinion of this Franchise will be !
I’ve been waiting for this thread to appear omg
I grew up playing the gen 6 and 7 games, with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon being my favourite games and Corphish being my all time favourite Pokemon
As for spinoffs, I’ve put an ungodly amount of hours into Pokemon Go, and I have a bit of a soft spot for New Pokemon Snap
I started with I think Leaf Green? Or Diamond. I played White 1, Heartgold and then didn’t play any for years! Played Sword, Violet and tried but couldn’t get into Arceus. I LOVE Pokemon, had such a hyperfixation as a kid and even now I do have some funkos and plushies.
…Is that a good Idea to admit I never tried that Game? I do totally get the Appeal, but somehow I never tried it, maybe I should fix that someday.
Played a bit of it and enjoyed that one! The Concept of Pokémon Snap is quite simple but somehow very entertaining I must say!
Either way, a great Game to start with! Big Love for Gen 4!! And Leaf Green is probably my favorite of the Remakes we have got! (granted I haven’t played the one for Gen 4 so I can’t count that).
Excellent Choice! Probably my favorite of this Gen’s Starter!!
You will always be famous, Turtwig!! Easily a favorite from the Grass Starters (or was it Plant Starters? My Brain is too much in the german Language with Pokemon ).
Turtwig was the one I never picked in Platinum when I was younger, but have become a fan since them. Loved Torterra in the monoground Platinum run I did last year.
So, I technically started with Pokémon FireRed and Emerald, because those were the games my friends and I kept playing on school breaks (we all had GBAs, but only a couple of us had the games, so we took turns playing).
The first one I actually played from start to finish was Diamond for the DS. Boy did I spend hundreds of hours playing that game, and it’s still my favourite to this day. My first starter was Chimchar, but I can’t remember what I named it.
My cousin had Pearl, so we played a lot together, trading Pokémon and battling each other.
I had a Pokémon phase at one point, and I bought the older generation games to play for myself (Red, Gold, Emerald again) and then continued with Black, Black 2 and X before getting tired of it all.
I also watched the anime in the early seasons, back when it still had the best theme song ever!
Oh, and I had a huge pack of cards that I kept trading with my friends.
I used to love Pokemon when I was in middle school but it died down after a few years. My siblings and I used to collect Pokemon cards and play the TCG. I wasn’t that good but I enjoyed playing it.
My first and only Pokemon game is Sword and Shield. I only play it on roadtrips on the rare occasion where we bring the switch. I haven gotten that far but it’s fun to play.
My first anime was Black and White. I think I stopped watching after XYZ.
My brother and I had to share a Gameboy Advance back in 2006 and had a secondhand copy of Pokemon Leaf Green where we continued on the game with the previous owner’s Blastoise. Unfortunately never made it to the Elite Four (couldn’t find that damn HM Waterfall) so restarted with a Bulbasaur but didn’t get very far in until we moved and kind of lost track of the Gameboy. Also used to watch the TV show whenever it was on and rent the movies from the video store. Kinda lost interest over the years until Pokemon GO came out and have been playing since it first launched, tho unfortunately a lot less now that I’ve moved from a city where I would walk/catch public transport all the time to where I now have to drive everywhere.
I started with Heart Gold, and a lot of my favourite Pokemon are Gen 2 because of this - Ampharos, Typhlosion, Tyranitar, Umbreon are always on my teams after this game, because it was the games that introduced me to Pokemon, and I’ve loved it ever since. Cyndaquil is my favourite starter. Besides Doctor Who, Pokemon is my biggest interest.
I’m really into the TCG App game now. I collected the cards as a kid, and wish I still had them, but I unfortunately sold them all a couple years ago. But I’m recapturing this fun part of my youth with the card games!
I started all the way back in ye olden days with Pokemon Blue (I swear I’m not old), and picked Squirtle as my starter. As far as starters go I usually pick the water starter 9 times out of 10, though there are some exceptions, Cyndaquil, Fennekin, and Sprigatito my beloved.
My favourite gens are 4, 6, and 9, and my favourite Pokemon is Slyveon. If anyone would like to trade Pokemon, let me know
Oh we’ve entered one of my Big 3 Special Interests here
Pokémon Yellow is the first ever videogame I remember playing, at 4 years old. This series has been such a huge part of my life that at university I started the Pokémon Society, and even now as an adult I book Pokémon game release days off work. Hell, even though my plan was to be a general YouTube content creator I’ve essentially accidentally become a Pokétuber because I just love talking about these games
