No it means everyone else is wrong about this one.
That must be part of the 12 Doctor era was just long enough a go to be the most praised one. It will not be as highly rated in five years when people have more nostalgia for something else.

Yep. I love pretty much every episode that is left, so right now, I take away points from the episodes that have the least points just to keep the game going. Otherwise, it would be impossible to play it now.
Yeah, very true. I already begin to think better of 13’s era than my friend who hasn’t been this obsessed with DW, who is still on the “she’s great but the scripts are awful” rhetoric
It’s not even nostalgia for me, I just think World Enough and Time and The Doctor Falls is a cracking two parter
We have started to see some shifts in what people think of the 13s era. Just look at what people say about it on this site. It is much more positive than during her era. Now everyone hates RTD because it is the current era. It will change during the next showrunner.
So you admit that in a few years’ time, you will love Flux because of the nostalgia ;)
I am obviously immune against this. That is how I can see the twelfth doctor for what it is. A good Doctor with some good and some bad stories.
I agree! He is a good doctor with good and bad stories. We just seem to disagree on what the bad are ![]()
Literally describes every single Doctor.
The casting of all the Doctors has been spot on!
Exactly. This is allways the cycle in all fandoms.
Current era - this is shit
The previous era - that was actually kind of good
The era before that - the best era ever!!!
The most popular/mainstream era - it was actually not that good
The rest - mixed options
I always feel that is ever so slightly condescending whenever I see it, and a sweeping away of genuine criticisms of certain eras. There’s always a level of revisionism but I’ve never massively changed my opinions from the time. Both Russell eras infuriated me more than any other showrunner’s during broadcast. Sure there were some absolute classics in both but the issues I had were and are so prominent that it makes for a very choppy experience when the show is on.
It isn’t always just yearning for an era past and an automatic criticism of the current era, oftentimes (certainly my own experience) is that it’s an irritating feeling when the show isn’t currently to your tastes on a fairly consistent level.
With regards to your question about World Enough and Time, we’re at a point now where all episodes left are (in my opinion) brilliant. But it’s push comes to shove now in the Elimination Game and I’d probably say I think World Enough and Time is stronger than Silence in the Library, or even Blink. This isn’t like comparing it with In the Forest of the Night or Sleep No More (I’m aware they’re not Moffat episodes, just examples of demonstrably weaker episodes). They have their fans of course but then I’d think it’d be no contest. Eliminating Blink at this stage isn’t to say Blink is bad, but it’s a game of hugely narrow margins now.
For me, I think Blink is excellent. But if I had to choose I’d go for World Enough and Time purely for the one reason that Blink wears its cleverness on its sleeve whereas World Enough and Time is so rich underneath and is a deceptively more clever piece of work.
This has been the best elimination game in a long time by the way, loving it even though it’s making me crazy
But I loved Heaven Sent on transmission and it’s one of my most-rewatched episodes ever since, so your theory doesn’t hold up my friend.
Not saying Blink was bad. All the stories left were pretty good.
I personally decided to downvote it as the one with the least of the Doctor in it…
I don’t mean to be condescending and to me all eras have some genuine good and bad stuff.
Yeah this one really brings out the best and the worst sides of us.
I’m enjoying the bloodbath
Really, the biggest rules on the elimination games would be not to take what gets upvoted or downvoted too seriously, or even necessarily a good indication of how the person voting feels about the episodes, as far as I’m concerned…
This is also not as simple as that. Plenty of people out there who still think that the best era ever is Tennant and/or Smith.
Exactly. We are not compiling an official ranking here, that’s what we have the ratings on the site for ![]()
It was really interesting to me when the Chibnall era was current. I love Doctor Who (obviously) and, much like @Tian says, I have always found good and bad in each era, it really comes down to the approach whether I like an era overall or not. For example, Russell’s Doctor Who shouts at me every week and I can find it exhausting when it’s to cover up weaker elements. So on the whole I much preferred the quieter, more introverted approach Chibnall took.
That’s not to say I was blind to some of its faults, I don’t think any era is perfect after all. I also think, even as a defender of that era, that it was to Chibnall’s detriment in the wider view of the public because it didn’t disguise weaker elements as well as RTD did when he used some more extroverted tendencies, it felt more exposed. But I was enjoying a quieter Doctor Who, it was more my speed. Plus it helped that I loved Jodie.
Many, many more weren’t enjoying as was obvious but I didn’t put it down to a tendency to dunk on the current era in favour of previous ones, it was just lots of people who weren’t getting on with it in the same way as I didn’t get on with Russell’s era. (Although I maintain there was a disproportionate amount of people using Chibs’ era’s standing as an excuse to extol some pretty unacceptable opinons).
With Moffat, which is what this game is about, I have no question that of the three showrunners he is the strongest writer. His era was sometimes unwieldy in terms of him trying to be too clever and writing himself into a corner but he did strike a balance between the ‘shouty, shouty look over here not at the thin plot contrivance or convenience’ and ‘let’s slow things down for an introspective thoughtful take on the show and its main character’ far better than RTD or Chibnall.
What are left seem to hew closer to the latter than the former. Day of the Doctor I would say is the perfect balance between the two. Big, bombastic anniversary blowout but also a genuinely insightful take on the Doctor. It’s obvious which episode I would like to see win but at this point I’d honestly be fine with any of them.
They are definitely not on the same level for me as well…
The Eleventh Hour is leaps and bounds better than Blink ![]()
(Love Blink by the way, but the Eleventh Hour is a perfect start to the best season of Revival Who for me
)
