I’m starting a thread for Gallifrey One 2026 because a third guest was announced today. Anita Dobson at Gallifrey One 2026 | Gallifrey One 2026 The guests that have been announced so far for next year are Peter Davison, Paul McGann, and Anita Dobson.
For full transparency: I’m not affiliated with Gallifrey One, and I’m not being paid to advertise this or anything; I just loved attending it for the first time earlier this year.
I really enjoyed my first time there this year gone too! I’m going to wait to see who else they announce first before I decide if I want to go though, California is a bit of a trek
I’d love to go but going all the way to America is not at all realistic for me
Ticket bought yesterday. Hotelmageddon is on May 9th at noon Pacific, so be ready if you want to book at the Marriott.
Agreed I’d love to go one day, especially before it ends. Wish we had this style with big names over here! Granted, the last few years we’ve been getting way more newer actors over here. I remember years ago we’d never get current Doctors or companions then it flipped and we started getting some finally!
Can I ask a genuine question (to the Britons)?
Of course you can!
Granted I have never attended Gallifrey One, but sometimes I hear Britons say they wish they could visit and I don’t understand why. The UK is teeming with cons where DW actors attend, especially those from the classic series. You could theoretically meet actors and staff dozens of times over if you had the means and the interest. I don’t understand what Gallifrey One has that you can’t get in the UK, where there’s a larger swathe of fans and more opportunity to meet guests, buy merch, and do other fannish things.
I just like the idea of such a huge Doctor Who focused convention; like yeah we have plenty of cons and stuff here but something to this scale with this specific a focus on DW isn’t something we have here afaik
Yeah, my plan is to get tickets before then if I’m going, and manifesting that either I’m available or one of my parents are available to book a room on that day.
So with regards to UK cons, the big new who actors only go to big, non-DW specific cons. I remember growing up when I got into cons about 10 years ago, it was unheard of for New Who Doctors or companions to do cons, but as American con culture has affected the UK con culture (prices being a lot more pricey), its opened them to go to UK cons more. In terms of Doctor Who ONLY cons in the UK, they’re very small-scale and tend to feature classic who actors, and minor new who actors as opposed to like y’know Gallifrey One having showunners etc. Gallifrey One just is such a huge scale DW only con that we just don’t have over here.
Not British, but that first sentence sums it up. You don’t really get it until you’ve been there. There really isn’t anything else quite like Gallifrey One. It’s probably the biggest convention that is entirely Doctor Who specific. Yes, you probably do have plenty of other cons and opportunities to meet the stars in the UK, but how many of those cons are just more generic conventions, and how many of them are entirely Doctor Who conventions? It’s a non-profit convention, so the prices are pretty much just what they need to run it. The staff keep things very well organized and are generally friendly and helpful. And because it’s not as big as stuff like comic-con you actually can get a good experience with the guests, not as rushed through as the really big cons tend to be. It’s kind of a big Doctor Who family atmosphere, guests and attendees alike.
Thanks everyone. I find it strange that the UK doesn’t have any large-scale DW cons anymore. The popular ones like Panopticon folded and no one took their place.
Think rising costs as I said will have affected it. The only reason that modern companions/Doctors started coming was we started matching American prices. I really am shocked the BBC haven’t done another con, they did the 50th one and then the Festival in 2015. I went to both and they were FAB!! Also, way less pricey than other cons. Peter Capaldi was only £30 for a photo, compared to LFCC where I paid closer to £100 a few years later.
I want to go to Gallifrey One one day and hopefully before 2028. It’s the biggest con that’s closest to me but it’s still a long drive. I am worried about going though since I have social anxiety and it’ll be my first con which makes it even more nerve wracking.
If it helps, everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I can get anxious in a crowd, but I don’t remember having an anxiety attack all weekend.
Gally One is very friendly, accommodating, welcoming, and accepting of everyone. You’ll find people to fit in with, and there are probably plenty who feel similarly to you. I’d say it would be a good choice for a first con. But don’t feel like you have to force yourself if you don’t feel ready.
Thanks for the assurances! It helps a little
We’ve got a movie reunion going!
Well that’s cool. I’ve met Ashbrook before, she’s nice. Think this time if I get a chance I’ll ask her about Melora, her role on an episode of DS9 a couple years prior to the TV Movie. Tso is a new one for me though.
