For me it was our set of 1964 World Book Encyclopedias. Mom was so thrilled when I discovered Hardy Boys.

Sometimes I would annoy my siblings by reading an entire volume of an encyclopedia out loud. It was also annoying to me but commitment to the bit will win over annoyance any day
