thank you I think that TARDIS guide has helped a bit, because there are people having wildly different opinions on everything and that does make me feel like my thought are valid.
Different opinions are fun, and your opinions on our silly show are just as valuable as everyone else’s. It would be so boring if everyone agreed all the time.
One way might be to really think about what you liked about something before you read what others think. That way, you are going to be a bit more sure about your opinion, and it might be harder to change it.
thank you very much! this seems like a good idea
Did anyone attacked you for your own opinions before? That could be something to do with it too. Especially on social media platforms people are way too comfortable with this whole “my opinions are facts” thing. Don’t listen to anyone who are like this! Why would that make you a terrible person? If anything it would be incredibly unsettling if everyone thought the same , I just imagine army of robots to be honest Like what @Tian said , reading about other opinions affect this a lot so you start to feel like you need to think like majority , don’t let anyone ruining your entertainment , what you think always matters!
the weird thing is, I’ve never had any directly bad experiences before, due to not really having any social media. I think it’s just a me thing, because I’m really bad at taking critique for my writing or art as well. I will still keep trying to fight the instinct to agree with everyone, and I think I am better than I used to be
I have a spreadsheet with all my Big Finish in, it’s lovely
There is a setting on TARDIS Guide in My Account → Customisation that lets you blur all rating scores for things you have not yet rated!
I use this because otherwise I might accidentally see that a story I’m about to experience is well-loved or really hated, and that will affect my opinion straight away!
There is also a similar setting to hide the stars from reviews, so you just have to read the whole review to see what they think!
(I know you were talking about social media, but this is also useful )
My age old matra of “You know what, I don’t care” helps me survive. While I agree that discussion of opposing ideas is good, it relies on the idea that both sides are discussing in good faith.
It also helps if you look at what you enjoy critically. Coming to terms with the flaws of what you enjoy can lessen the blow when someone else presents it as a critique.
But imo, the most important thing is self reflection. Not being bothered by opinions is a never ending battle, if you start to notice a conversation is becoming a bit too infuriating, it’s ok to step away. However it’s important to also look back on why that conversation bothered you, understanding why you’re bothered by something is half the battle.
Maybe one day I’ll manage to follow my own advice .
I already have those on! I went looking for a ‘hide ratings’ setting pretty much as soon as I joined and I’m so glad that it exists. (I did a similar thing on AO3, by using a site skin that hides all the stats, and it really helped)
My school is keeping us in the conference room until 17:00 Watching lots of presentations
Hit 1200 completed stories yesterday! [1]
also that’s an average of 2.2 stories a day since I started watching. What am I doing with my life ↩︎
Congrats! Mine is only 349
That’s plenty as well! As long as you are having fun, it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you go through the Whoniverse, or how much of it you even want to explore! There’s no right way
how do you add that little box with the three dots that has more text when you click on it? I think its called a footnote but I can’t see a way to do it with the buttons in the ‘writing post’ box
It’s the big asterisk next to the emoji smiley face
wait it looked way different when I was typing, that was confusing
Yup, exactly like that
