0 points for me?
I miss using paper maps…
9 but a lot of things I’ve done I’ve only done once or at my grandparents
1 or 2 for me. Never used a rotary phone (unless you count toys for little kids), and I remember renting videos a handful of times when I was little, but I don’t think it was an actual Blockbusters. Otherwise, I’ve done everything on there. Oh, and they misspelled vinyl.
Oh and even though I’ve never taken a photo with a film camera, I’ve had lots of photos of me taken with one, my aunt had one until a few years ago they stopped developing the pictures at the last store in her town
I think “sent a postcard” and “owned an encyclopedia” are the ones I haven’t done, though I’ve used one.
OK I’m too young to do this properly so I’m counting what I have done:
-
My uncle used to have a camera that he lended to us often and I spend quite some time fiddling with it
-
We had a huge cassette palyer when I was little, and I used to record on cassettes for my English class
-
Dictionaries are mandatory for Chinese class in elementary school, and for English class because they don’t allow us to bring any electronics to school (I ended up sneaking my Kindle in to
read Doctor Who instead of paying attention to the English teacheruse it as a dictionary) -
The kids’ edition also counts right?
I didn’t do 7 of these. A friend of mine had a rotary phone when we were children, and I did mess around with it, but it was purely for decoration and wasn’t actually connected to anything, so I don’t think that counts as “using”.
- I own a walkman!!
Six for me! I’ve played with rotary phones but never used one properly, but I remember using floppy disks on our old family computer and inheriting my dad’s old Walkman for a while as well. I’ve also rented movies from a video rental store, though not Blockbuster, because those never existed here.
I also used to take a lot of pictures with a film camera on our family holidays! I miss the days when you had to bring the film to a camera store so that the roll could be developed into pictures and the excitement you felt when you finally got to see the pictures, only for some of them to be duds
I’m also too young to remember to access the internet via dial-up. It’s always just been there for me, ready to access.
No one says you can’t still use them
I know, I know…
I just kind of miss the family holidays when I was a kid where since I probably was about 8 years old became my Father’s designated navigator because my mother was rubbish at it and my three sisters were squabbling in the back rows of the family Peugeot estate car
Ahh, nostalgia…

I haven’t experienced this childhood, but this made me feel nostalgic as well!
I never had this exact experience but my dad would let me sit in the passenger seat and look out turning sighs he might miss. Even though I wasn’t old enough to sit in the passenger seat. I would set the navigation on his phone on our family outings because both mom and dad “can’t figure out these apps like you kids”
Ahh, nostalgia… (Wait, no, I still do this when I come home for summer and winter holiday)
I’m at 1. That is only because we didn’t have a Blockbuster near us. I’ve rented VHS tapes before. Every Friday we would get a handful of films for £1 each to last over the weekend.
I worked in a video rental shop years ago. A little independent one. Still the best job I ever had.
I appreciate Big Finish releasing some stories for free via the podcast but I always skip through Colin’s intro…
8 of these! Our family still has a lot of old tech lying around and I enjoy listening to vinyl and cassettes even though I don’t often, and I love my tiny film camera. But the old internet stuff—never…
Good news: I’m in Xi’an and meeting my friend today!
Bad news: We both have no idea what to do or where to go. I chose some park on the map at random
Don’t get lost!
