Free For All Chat Thread (Part 4)

I’m still a bit confused as to why the new club rule has been put in place. I’ve been trying to catch up on all the clubs I haven’t posted in yet.

We’re just asking people to space out club posts rather than the forum feed being clogged with one person posting in multiple club threads in quick succession.

It’s happened a few times over the last couple of months.

I believe it’s just about spacing it out a little. If you watch an episode, gather your thoughts, post them, then watch the next episode and post some thoughts, I’d imagine that’s perfectly fine. It’s just when there’s ten club threads at the top of the forum within ten minutes that the forum becomes sort of unusable

I like the new guideline about Club threads. I enjoy reading new posts, even months after previous postings, but if 20 of them suddenly appear I’m more likely to just hit ‘ignore’ on them all and move on. So spacing them out, and people just being more mindful, is a great idea. And, hopefully, as has been said, a slower trickle of new replies might re-spark new discussions to those threads too! Win/win, IMO.

I got this when making my blur topic, how does the forum software decide what topics are similar because these have nothing to do with what I’m writing?

It might just be that’s it’s registering some of the same words across those threads. Wouldn’t let it bother you.

Yeah, I think it just matches words, so don’t worry about it

I like the rule, too. It makes it lower pressure to recall older episodes and give people time to think on it. Plus they never close, there’s no reason to feel pressured.

Also, as an aside, I work a really long time on posts making them like a review. But I imagine the intent is to spark discussion. I know that’s one thing I need to get better at.

Moffat makes a story out of random elements. Also answers the question of Jack Harkness’ missing memories.

Yep. This has become canon for me now. How he turned a random story into something compelling? Not sure but that’s Moffat for you. He could sell me on the notion that aliens built the Empire State Building during a weeping angel attack as the first attempt at a space elevator to help us escape and I’d believe him. (Partially because this is true, btw. UNIT did an excellent job reda█████ ████)

Me, still in this heatwave:

Only took him 21 years to get round to it. Honestly, I remember thinking that those two years would be a crucial part of his character arc when I first saw The Empty Child. The idea of someone hunting down people to discover their lost memories is great, but it was just never followed up on.

Just one of those weird things that fell by the wayside. Did Big Finish never address it either?

I believe some Ninth Doctor comics touched on it, but I’m not sure on that front - I’m not really a comics person

The Titan Ninth Doctor comics and one of the stories in the first Lives of Captain Jack boxset, sort of touched on it, but not enough to fully answer it.

How it started / How it’s going

There’s a bloody thunderstorm out where I’m at and the skys flashing constantly + the noise it’s impossible to sleep.

Gonna make a decaf tea and read a book if sleep isn’t an option.

A dedicated thread could work!

I don’t normally care for this show but I really enjoyed this one. I’ll always have time for Moffat discussing his era, and his writing techniques and choices :star_struck:

Thank you for sharing the link.
