been thinking alot about inflection and why its important, the usual sentence I use to explain this is I didn’t punch the byan but in the spirit of doctor who :
I like doctor who : normal sentence
I like doctor who: Its me who likes it! not them!
I LIKE doctor who: I really like doctor who
I like DOCTOR WHO : I don’t like that other thing, I like doctor who
all three of these sentences have different meanings and I think that’s cool!!! human languages are fascinating
I didn’t punch bryan example
I didn’t punch bryan: normal sentence
I didn’t punch bryan: someone did, but not me!
I DIDNT punch bryan: I would never do that.
I didn’t PUNCH bryan: maybe I kicked Bryan, but I didn’t punch him!
I didnt punch BRYAN: oh I just punched someone else

in the spirit of grammar etc I also like to think about the order of adjectives that most native English speakers don’t think about, we just do
the red old house sounds wrong ! but the old red house sounds right!
the order if your curious is: opinion ,size, age, shape, color, origin, material, purpose!
I wonder how this order came to be, and how most/all native speakers agree on it subconsciously without ever learning it! fascinating! must also be very annoying to learn lol

this is also a very good sentence for this! the og sentence I use is actually I didn’t kill the dog because its quite descriptive and has a deeper meaning behind it, but I figured it was impolite to dive into the grammar behind that lols

It’s weird to think about as well. When writing, I sometimes reread my sentences, and find that they just sound… off. Then I switch adjective order, and it sounds fine again. So we don’t always do it automatically, but the sentence just sounds so wrong to us when it isn’t in the right order.
Apparently it’s related to how ‘innate’ the property is to the noun, with exceptions for some vowel sounds (like in hip-hop - the “i” sound goes before the “o” sound, despite it violating standard laws for ordering). This guy has a good video talking about it (I know YouTube Shorts isn’t generally a good source, but this guy is well-researched and does some actual linguistic research).

We only do it when the combination is rare enough. A Fire Horse only occurs once every 60 years and last time we have
a Yi-Si (Wood Snake) year + a leap sixth month + a ‘Double Spring’ phenomenon like 2025 was some 660 year ago. So it’s kinda a big deal if you’re into thing like these

I took the liberty of checking how much I have consumed this month, which is only a little over halfway through, and I realized I have consumed 50 stories. I definitely have a Who addiction.

I’ve consumed 72 stories so far this month. Granted most of these have been comics (I read all the Sixth Doctor DWM comics this year and most of Titan Ninth Doctor run) and TV Stories (a lot of minisodes and webcasts).
