Favourite One-Off Characters

Recent watches and posts have made me think - who are your favourite one-off characters?

Damon from Arc of Infinity is high on my list as is Ma Tyler from Image of the Fendahl.

As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m surprised Damon hasn’t reappeared in the EU.

Oh, you meant characters without audio spinoffs? Veega from Gallifrey will be forever my most beloved character with seven lines who is never important again when she should be <3

I almost put a caveat in the first post for characters who haven’t then reappeared in books, comics or audio…

I have two major ones from the same writer actually.

Liam from The Rapture and Samson and Gemma from Terror Firma, both brilliant ideas for characters who really ought to have been revisited.

Funnily enough, both products of Joseph Lidster scripts.

Picking just one favorite is always hard for me, especially if the definition of ‘One-off’ can often be brushed aside with Who because a.) most Character reappear at least once. That random 60s Character from that lost Serial?

So to be very accurate to the Title, I am just giving the Counter Measures Team an honorable Mention for now.

As far as proper one-offs goes, there are quite a few I like:

Cameca comes to Mind, who is a joy to watch in The Aztecs

Also, I quite liked Shona from Last Christmas!

There are probably plenty of other great ones that are escaping my Mind for now, so uhh I probably will come back to this Thread in the Future (maybe)!

Oh, and Dugga Doo. We all love Dugga Doo <3

Rodan!

It’s really odd to me that she’s never reappeared.

I’m a big fan of The Morpho Brains, and The Tollmaster from Delta and the Bannermen

Don’t tables do that?

His appearance in “Wish World” is just him and some CGI flames giving a pre-recorded vague warning, so he’s basically a one-off character.

My serious answer.

Khrisong from The Abominable Snowmen could so easily be the soldier boy, violent archetype whom the Doctor staunchly opposes - especially as we’re in Season 5 territory and one story away from The Ice Warriors. Instead, the apparent oxymoron he faces in being a warrior monk is so thoroughly compelling, his little asides and conversations with other characters within Det-Sen are so subtle insofar to be delightful.

I don’t like The Abominable Snowmen much but will concede that Khrisong is a great character.

He’s great, I know some people do rewatches where they focus on one character and how they’re performed alone, so I might focus on just him next time I revisit Abominable. Probably the best way to get the most out of it!

I wish Anita from JttW ended up becoming a companion, she was easily my favourite part of the episode. Just her and the Doctor vibing together is what I love about Doctor Who
