Favourite Incarnation of the Master (In Performed Media)

Derek Jacobi is fantastic in the audios!

I think you’re absolutely right here.

Beevers is such a good Master. Just listening to his voice alone fits the Character so much! Ainley is such a fun one and always made some weaker stories a bit better (looking at you the kings demons). Gomez is probably my favorite of the revival, I prefer my Master not to go that much crazy but her? I am not sure why, but it just worked for me. And of course Degaldo is such a delight to watch, the original and a excellent one at that!

Eric Roberts and Sir Derek are absolutely pheonemal performers. Genuinely fantastic.

Sacha Dhawan doesn’t get enough credit for his excellent performance, and I can’t wait for his BigFinish sets next year.

Also, fun little ComicCon story about Dhawan - Birmingham ComicCon 2022: I was waiting in line to get my photo taken with him, and a trans-masc guy in front of me asked Sacha to wave a trans flag with him in the photo. Sacha said he would be honoured and gave the guy a fist bump at the end. What a great human being!

Oh Missy you so fine, you so fine, you blow my mind, hey Missy! Hey Missy!

One of the interesting things with Missy changing the lyrics to “Missy” instead of “Mickey” is that “Mickey” was a cover song with changed lyrics as well, and the original lyrics were about “Kitty”…

There is also a Swedish cover of this song by one of the biggest Swedish artists of all time.

Jacobi is 100% my favourite, with Delgado a close second. But I absolutely and utterly adore Macqueen!

I really hope we get more Milo Parker in the future; he was so good in Masterful at portraying a very different, very pragmatic early incarnation!

What I like about Delgado and Gomez both is they made the Master fun without being smarmy, as I find Simm.

Beevers and Ainley were also very good! But much more straightforward and less camp, which can make for a better story but is always a less memorable characterization.

Just realised it’s been 3 years since Masterful and they’ve yet to release anything else with Milo Parker, hopw they do soon, been wanting to hear more of his incarnation since Masterful came out.

Too be fair, they also haven’t released anything with Simm since Masterful.

Three way tie for me.
John Simm’s Master was what i grew up with - he was so good in the role.
Michele Gomez - she took the role of ‘The Master’ well ‘Missy’ - and made it her own.
Delgado being the first Master - was such a great classic who villain.
they all add something unique to the role.

I dream of more Simm content.
A spin off series for him through BF would be a dream come true.

I could easily see a Torchwood audio or two featuring the Simm Master in the role of Harold Saxon in the period of his rise to power.

I’d love more Simm!Master on audio for sure! And yeah I really hope that Parker isn’t just a one off for the anniversary…

That being said we hadn’t had Macqueen since then until Stuff of Legend, so anything can happen!

You never know what they’ve got in the pipeline that they haven’t announced yet.

But… but what about…

…Gordon Tipple?

My votes went to Delgado, Pratt/Beevers, Macqueen, Jacobi, Gomez and Dhawan. I genuinely find it quite difficult to choose between them for a multitude of reasons. I feel guilty not voting for the others. I enjoy Ainley and Simm in the role hugely. I’m looking forward to listening to the Eric Roberts Master! audios. I’ve not yet heard Milo Parker in the role.

…and I can’t vote for Dreyfus for… reasons which I suspect are shared by many.

Michelle and Sacha versions of The Master were my personal faves. I was really really invested in their stories especially Missy. She was so fun to watch and the way her arc ended was sad in a really good way. Spy Master holy moly I was so entertained like he was charming, evil and fun. Idk why I like them so much really, they’re just really silly I love them both.
