Favourite Full-Cast Audio for Each Doctor?

Finally, someone chooses something other than The Holy Terror lmao.

(I do like that audio, don’t get me wrong)

Hey, myself and Jamie chose The Wormery! :star_struck:

Arrangements is also top tier though

Arrangements is simply the better audio imo, a truly fantastic thing

Yes!! Just so good I ought to relisten someday

One of these is Redacted. Oh no, now you’ve got me doing it too! Also, I love Shadow of The Daleks, but I like the boat one from Time Again more.

I’ve not listened to any Fugitive, One, or Two but as for the rest:

Three: The Gulf: I’ve listened to woefully not enough Three audios but this one was SO good and I think about it all the time

Four: Requiem for the Rocket Men: My favourite 4DA I’ve heard so far, made me cry on the bus :smiling_face_with_tear:

Five: Time in Office: There were a few strong contenders here [1] but this one is just wonderful. Tegan and Leela are a beautiful combo <3

Six: The Wrong Doctors: Again strong contenders, but the question was ‘favourite’ and not best and this one always makes me smile

Seven: Shadow of the Scourge: Again, the question is favourite[2] and this one is very silly but I love it

Eight: Horror of Glam Rock: Perhaps an oddball choice but I have listened to SO many Eight stories and when it comes down to it, Lucie is my girl and I used to listen to this one on loop

War: The Hybrid’s Choice: War has a lot of great stories, but Enemy Mine blew me away with how much I enjoyed it

Nine: Archipelago: Do I even need to explain why Star-Crossed is the best Nine box?

Ten: Splinters: I’ve not listened to a lot of Ten audios and maybe it was the Leela of it all but yeah

Eleven: Victory of the Doctor: Blubbed the whole way through this one <3

Unbound: Dead and Breakfast: I love Unbound and Benny and this one is perfect <3

  1. shoutout to Peterloo Massacre and Fanfare for the Common Men too ↩︎

  2. though Quantum Possibility Engine and Split Infinitive came close both for obvious reasons ↩︎

Absent Friends and ADitF are the closest I’ve come to crying at an audio

Oh, I cry so much at audios. (And stories in general…)

The last time an audio made me cry was A Death in the Family — specifically where Ayl-San is talking to her mother. That moment really got me this time!

It takes a lot to get me to cry at an audio haha

First Doctor - The Invention of Death - brilliant, otherworldly sci-fi concept, the travelers witness the consequences of their actions

Second Doctor - Lords of the Red Planet - quintessential ‘genesis of the Ice Warriors’ story

Third Doctor - The Unzal Incursion - 3, Liz and the Brig try to save the world alone from within the Hercules plane seen in The Invasion, I love it

Fourth Doctor - The Foe from the Future - six part epic that spans multiple time zones and locations, with fantastic imagery to picture for yourself. A total feast for the imagination

Fifth Doctor - Omega - Ian Collier steals the show as Omega, but the Fifth Doctor is absolutely sublime and hilariously snarky. He’s one of the best Doctors when written by Nev Fountain

Sixth Doctor - Davros - my favourite Big Finish. Davros and the Sixth Doctor have some of the best dynamics of any characters I’ve seen in media. Two arrogant geniuses who know and love when they are the smartest men in the room. Bernard Horsfall and Wendy Padbury are great as the secondary antagonists too, whom the Doctor and Davros both vie for their attention.

Seventh Doctor - Master - disturbing, unsettling, masterful. We know the Doctor carries the guilt of what he has let the Master do to millions, but it’s only here we realise to what extent that guilt is. You cannot look at the relationship between these two the same way after experiencing this.

Ninth Doctor - Archipelago - I was never a River fan before, but her dynamic with the stoic and detached Ninth Doctor is brilliant. She desperately wants to be the anchor he needs at this point in his life. He simply isn’t interested. Now they’re stranded at sea together, alone with a man searching for his lost husband. Again, the way River and 9 handle each other makes you see them both very differently.

Unbound Doctor - Have I Told You Lately? - The Doctor and Benny become separated, only able to communicate through the computer of the ancient ship they’re trapped on. However, they need to teach the machine how to speak before they’re able to effectively talk to each other. Just how much can a machine learn before it can be considered sentient? A brilliant introspection into the relationship between Benny and the Unbound Doctor. He’s grumpy and aloof, she’s an adventurous go-getter, but despite how much they tend to clash, this story really does show how both characters soften the other. There’s no one quite like them.

I’ve not listened to ones for all doctors, but going by my ratings for the ones I have:

1 - An Unearthly Woman
3 - Peepshow

The only audios I’ve listened to for each of them are those lmao

4 - Out of Time 1

It’s only that and his DoRS story I’ve done

5 - My Dinner with Andrew

I’ve listened to ~10 audios with him, but my favourite by ratings is still a DoRS one, that said, Excelis Dawns is probably the most memorable of them for me

6 - The Marian Conspiracy

Also listened to ~10 audios with him, but there’s a lot more highly rated for me, Whispers of Terror was also very close to stealing the top spot for me. Also I don’t think it counts, but if we do include Lord Burner (the alternate doctor from Disassembled), then Disassembled easily tops the list.

7 - The Fearmonger

I’ve listened to tragically few Seven stories, but I have listened to The Fearmonger which is an easy 9/10 for me

8 - UNIT Dating

Overall this is just making me realise how little Doctor Who Audios I’ve listened to, I know there’s so much good 8 out there, but even though he’s my most listened-to Doctor, it’s still only 23 stories

9 - Girl Deconstructed

Only listened to his first two sets, but Girl Deconstructed is great

10 - Death and the Queen

I mean come on, of course it is, what else could it be?

11 - The Last Stand of Miss Valarie Lockwood

Both it and Sins of the Flesh are 10/10 for me, and the lowest that series gets is a 7/10

Fugitive - The Legend of Baba Yaga

I’ve only listened to her boxset, and TLoBY is the clear standout there

The Curator - The Long Way Round?? I guess??

Listened to 4 stories with him in, two 6/10s, two 7/10s, really just a toss up

Unbound - Sympathy for the Devil

Toss up between his two Unbound stories, but think I’ve got to go for the original

Auld Mortality Unbound Doctor - A Storm of Angels

He’s only got two stories, and I prefer his second outing more

Note that for 1-3 I actually haven’t listened to many of their stories (3 each, one of which is Deathworld for them all lol) really so this is kinda by default for them :sob:

Fugitive - Coda
Baba Yaga is super fun and I think Martin is more comfortable in the role there, but man. Coda is a blast. Just made me too happy to not choose

First Doctor - Deathworld
I liked Incherton Incident and Demon Song but out of the three I’ve heard I adore Deathworld! It’s so fun!

Second Doctor - Operation Werewolf
A little too long and could have been shorter but god is this a good story that fits the period perfectly! I love The Krillitane Feint too and it was a hard choice

Third Doctor - The Quintessence
HELL yes!! Works for me on every level. Just a great little existential horror story

Fourth Doctor - The Trouble with Drax
Genuinely feels like a lost Douglas Adams script. Hilarious and clever script with great performances

Fifth Doctor - Spare Parts
It’s Spare Parts. What more is there to say?

Sixth Doctor - Jubilee
Tough to choose between this and Arrangements for War. But it’s Jubilee. What more is there to say?

Seventh Doctor - Death in the Family
I haven’t heard this in years but it’s gotta be Death in the Family because, well, it’s Death in the Family.

Eighth Doctor - The Chimes of Midnight
My favourite Doctor Who story.

War Doctor - Coda I guess
I’ve not heard most of his stuff in years and the stuff I’ve done in the past year or two I’ve only found okay other than Coda, which is very fun. So I guess Coda?

Ninth Doctor - Archipelago
I had to try and not cry when boarding a plane listening to this!

Tenth Doctor - Death and the Queen
I don’t know if I love it as much as I used to but god is it funny

Eleventh Doctor - Broken Hearts
It’s like Scherzo but imo better

Nothing for 12.

For The Curator I think I’ll go with The Artist at the End of Time. I don’t love it but it feels more his story than any of his other appearances, where he shows up and acts all-knowing.

After Stranded 4 and Once and Future, I think Colin is the better Curator as well.

I love seeing all the appreciation for The Artist at the End of Time. It’s so cozy and perfect. I’d love to spend a day having tea and basking in creativity with the Curator.

I’m going to add that to my “Listen Again” list.

I mean, again - I don’t love it, I’d just class it as the best story for the Curator. Wouldn’t want to be misquoted here, I don’t especially like it as an episode.

I’m going to generally have very boring answers because I’ve not done much (‘not much’ being relative of course with my 456 hours of listening time) but I have like 2 or something that people may find interesting.

1 Invention of Death (which I’m not even THAT big a fan of, but it’s the one I liked the most from the small amount I’ve listened to)

2 I’ve done zero Michael Troughton stories except OaF, so I guess it would be his 1 second cameo in The Union? I guess??

3 I liked Primord more than the Scream of Ghosts, and that’s where my Three experience ends.

4 Would Out of Time count? Even if I don’t think it’s good, I do like it a lot. The Stuff of Nightmares is technically full cast with Baker narrating in character as 4. Or else I will have to also give Drax the win.

5 Hooklight, and yeah I know it’s not out completely even but no Doctor Who story has had such a grip on my thoughts as this. (Hooklight 1 spoilers: and I’m very tempted to put this as my entry for Eight as well…)

6 The Holy Terror was the first Doctor Who story to really make me want to crawl into a ball and weep so that’s another unoriginal one blame Robert Shearman.

7 yeah it’s Master Master is really good

8 I like the Natural History of Fear more than Scherzo and Chimes ducks and runs away

9 Archipelago from my small pool of audio 9 experience.

10 The Last Line, but for one where 10 is the main role, I prefer Infamy of the Zaross to Death and the Queen…

11 I literally would not be able too choose, pretty much his entire run is 10/10s and even the first full cast set without Valarie I really like. Broken Hearts I guess.

12 Come back to this post whenever the new 12th Doctor chronicles release in however many years that might be, I predict that I’ll like those.

13 Salvation is really good I have to admit, even if I’m generally not super big on the rest of the season.

War gets Rewind. I think it’s the perfect exploration of who the War Doctor as a character is. Where he tries so hard to do the right thing, but the war makes it into a horrifying tragedy. After listening to the Neverwhen I realize there’s some concepts that are kind of the same, like the whole dying again and again thing. And Neverwhen has more ‘clever’ moments where you’re like aaaaaaah I get it, but I think Rewind is smarter in the way it tells its story. Neverwhen keeps telling us via Ollistra very literally ‘He’s still the Doctor,’ but Rewind is told from the perspective of an outsider who sees this strange man for the first time, and sees him simply for what he is, trying to save people; A Doctor. And I also like its structure in general more.

Fugitive I’ve only listened to Coda I fear…

The Curator it’s also only his OaF story.

I have no Valeyard experience I know I know fake Sixie fan

Unbound is Asking for a Friend of course.

Nicholas Briggs Doctor is Cloud of Fear.
