Favourite Christmas Movies

I watch the first two Home Alones if I can remember it’s Christmas. I don’t celebrate, so to me December is my birthday month, so I watch my favourite birthday movies. The first is Coraline, which I have loved ever since it came out. I made my friends watch it with me at my next birthday party, and they all got nightmares from it, but I never did.

The second is Fly Away Home, which I first watched on a class trip which happened to be on my birthday. There was a magnificent storm that day, and half our umbrellas broke before we made it to the theatre, but by the time the movie was over the sun was shining again, which was very thematic. It’s a really wonderful film, I highly recommend it. Not exactly seasonal, but still.

It’s a Christmas tradition in my house to watch Christmas Vacation every year. My wife introduced me to it years ago and we now make a point of watching it together every year. Even though I practically know it off by heart, it’s still a lot of fun.

The other films that get the most viewing here are Home Alone 1 and 2 and Muppets Christmas Carol. We did also watch the new Home Alone this year on Disney+ as I’d not seen it. On balance that was a mistake.

Enjoyed “Violent Night”, too. Maybe time for a rewatch.

A must-watch, year after year. :star_struck:
For the German-speaking folx - Aktuell steht ne Doku zum Film in der ARD-Mediathek: MDR Dok: Drei Haselnüsse und ein Mythos: 50 Jahre Aschenbrödel - hier anschauen
(Probably geo-fenced, as it’s a German public service broadcaster, and additionally they are not allowed to just keep their content up for longer periods of time. So, I guess the link will break in a few days.)

You left out Mean Girls (well, they do dress up in Santa outfits and sing Jingle Bell Rock).

I always answer Die Hard for the fun of the argument, but for the sentimental stuff, A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street come to mind.

Can I count A Charlie Brown Christmas?

I love the Charlie Brown Christmas. They used to show it in the UK when I was younger but I haven’t seen it on the schedules for years.

It’s good the first time, but I’ve seen it too much and now I can’t stand it!

My favourite Christmas movie will always be Elf. Hilarious from start to finish.

You left out Jaws The Revenge.

Actually, on the subject, I’m rather fond of While You Were Sleeping, which is certainly as much of a Christmas movie as some others we have mentioned. It’s set at Christmas, there’s gift-giving and being with family and stuff. Sweet little romcom.

I watched It’s A Wonderful Life!

It was very sweet. However I felt like they could have cut a good half hour from the beginning and it would have been better, it was a very long movie.

But I really enjoyed it, which is rare for me with something this old!
