Colin’s appearance as a man who thinks he’s an alien in an episode of Casualty isn’t that long a list surely…
I love David Vincent . I actually wrote a few stories about him.
This is what actually got me excited about the new Doctor Who. I probably wouldn’t have bothered without this pairing.
Jodie Whittaker returns to London stage to play The Duchess
I’d love to see this, I’ve never seen any of the Doctors on stage. I have seen 2 Sherlocks, Benedict Cumberbatch & Jonny Lee Miller in Frankenstein.
I agree with everything posted above! So many amazing roles.
I actually didn’t hate Inside Man, but then I love a tense and difficult-to-watch drama.
Just adding here Jodie Whittaker in Trust Me was really great - this was released after she was cast as The Doctor but before her series started, and it was ironically about someone pretending to be a Doctor. I watched it to see what she would be like in the role (having only seen her so far in Broadchurch, Black Mirror, and Attack the Block), and I thoroughly enjoyed her performance!
Just thought of one for this.
Arthur Darvill was great as Rip Hunter in Legends of Tomorrow.
Echoing Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker, and Gatwa as Eric Effiong. Stand out actors in stand out roles; no wonder both got cast to be The Doctor.
The guy who plays General Cobb in The Doctor’s Daughter comes off as really wasted in it if you’ve seen his turn as a fascinatingly complex guitar-picking ex-prisoner in the very dark cold case show Waking the Dead. A lot of Doctor Who actors pop up in that show actually, including Julian Glover, Geoffrey Bayldon, Lynda Bellingham, Don Warrington, and Peter Capaldi, but probably my favorite crossover is Paul McGann and David Bradley both featuring heavily in the finale.
Arthur Young from Good Omens I guess!
I don’t watch much live-action TV and I actually don’t notice the Doctors and Companions much, I’m more invested in the side characters!
Like… I think the Master has better Companions than the Doctor! Not just Luvic but also Chan-Tho, Lucy Saxon, and now George Trenchard I guess, too!
Karen Gillan as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies
Peter Capaldi as DCI Hegarty in Criminal Record and as Gideon Shepherd in Devil’s Hour
David Tennant as Barty Crouch Jr in HP: Goblet of Fire
Karen Gillan was really, really great as Nebula!
Could not disagree more about David Tennant in Harry Potter though
Just thought I’d bump this thread with David Tennant back on our screens in the Disney+ adaptation of Rivals.
It’s on our to watch list - I’m sure it will be gloriously over the top!
- Jodie, the Davids, Eve, and especially Arthur in Broadchurch
- All the Davids (but mostly Tennant) and Sarah Parish in Blackpool
- Peter guest starring in The Vicar of Dibley
- Billie in Scoop
- Jodie and Kathryn Drysdale in St Trinian’s (David less so)
- Half the Fatal Death cast in Ab Fab
And of course:
Pertwee as Worzel. The first thing I saw him in.
A personal favourite for me will always be Patrick Troughton as Cole Hawlings in The Box of Delights. I don’t actually think I realised it was him until he passed away and I saw a photo of him from Box of Delights in a tribute article.
Also Derek Jacobi as Claudius in I,Claudius - for me, possibly his best performance in anything he’s done.
Derek Jacobi led a Box of Delights audio drama from Big Finish if you’re interested.
I do actually have that BF audio. I listened to it for the first time last Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it. You’ve reminded me that I need to dig it out again to listen to this year.
Can’t remember if they were actually good or not but I distinctly remember back in year 12 english we did Hamlet and the filmed version our teacher chose was the 1980 BBC version with Derek Jacobi as Hamlet and Lalla Ward as Ophelia. I was probably the only one in the class who appreciated their connection to Doctor Who lol
Also quite a few of the BBC Merlin cast were in Who and while the show itself was objectively pretty terrible (soooo much wasted potential) the cast did well with what terrible writing they were given
Off the top of my head
- Colin Morgan - Merlin (goth teen in Midnight)
- Richard Wilson - Gaius (doctor in Empty Child/Doctor Dances)
- Anthony Head - Uther (Krillitane leader in School Reunion, + some big finish)
- John Hurt - The (pointless and annoying)* Dragon, Kilgarrah (War Doctor)
*completely the fault of the merlin writers but a part of me always associates his voice with that absolutely Useless lump of scales and gets Mad
** I may or may not have dedicated too many years of my life to that godawful show as a young impressionable teen and the sheer wasted potential has scarred me for life /hj
