God no. Please no.
I’ve had very few fancasts for the Doctor over the years (just not something I tend to think of, my only genuine want being Olivia Colman) but randomly the thought that Jack Lowden would be a great pick for the Doctor just popped into my head today.
I’ve mainly seen him in Slow Horses and in that, despite his similar admiration for running, he definitely doesn’t hit the heroic notes of the character. However, I caught him in an episode of The Gold, where he plays a genuinely very intimidating antagonist so it’s more than clear he has the range for it.
Not necessarily a hard actor I want, more an archetype, but I’d really love a hunk Doctor. Tall, dashing, built like a superhero, with a totally contrasting personality: the sweetest. kindest, cuddliest Doctor ever with a bad case of being a bull in a china shop.
As for actual actors I’d like to see take on the role:
Jonathan Bailey absolutely has the range and would kill in the role for one of the more charmer, less abrasive Doctors a la 5.
Sally Hawkins I feel has that exact line of strange and comforting that would make a stellar (pun intended) more alien Doctor a la 4.
T’Nia Miller has been brought up several times and I’d love to see her take it on.
It’s a travesty that Michael Sheen hasn’t been able to take on the role yet, imo.
I don’t know if anyone here has seen the UK version of Ghosts, but Matthew Baynton is my choice

Not helpful but I think either you go with a HUGE name (coleman, sheen, elba, etc) or a (for all intents and purposes) an unknown. I don’t think you can go for semi famous
I don’t think they’d go for a name that big. The budget without Disney won’t allow it. Matthew Baynton is not a household name but he’s fantastic on ghosts, and that’s my personal pick for the next Doctor. Or Emma D’Arcy, they’re great
I could see it.
She would be terrific!
I really want a latina doctor I think that would be very very good
Yeah? Any suggestions?
no I know zero about pop culture , much less uk pop culture , but I think it shouldn’t be a major face or name
Check out Ghosts! You can see my choice of Matthew Baynton, but also, Emma D’Arcy, from house of the dragons they’re great too
Dunno how vanilla this, but I feel like Stephanie Beatriz would do a good job. She’d capture both the bubbly, fun side of the Doctor (Mirabel) and the side that wants to f**k everyone up (Rosa).
Strong pick!
Who’s that? I like their style!
Assad Zaman!
My three fantasy Doctors. They’ll never happen, but I can dream.
Morgana Robinson.
Best known for comedy, but that didn’t stop Pertwee. Interesting, inventive and definitely quirky. I’d think she’d bring a genuine unpredictability to the role.
Adrian Lester.
I was so hoping he’d get the gig a decade ago. Cool, controlled, and charming, he’ll always be the one that got away for me.
Rufus Sewell.
Always thought he’d be a great Doctor. He’s got such presence, such style, such a really intense gaze. Don’t think he’d do it, mores the pity.
