I know I just asked a similar question, but there are some Torchwood audios on sale and I was wondering if they have any prerequisites.

The ones I’m interested in are Sonny, Gooseberry, Coffee, Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue, Ex Machina, Dinner and a Show, Iceberg, The Sins of Captain John, Smashed, The Vigil, Sargasso, The Green Life, We Always Get Out Alive, Made You Look, and Ghost Mission.

I can tell you, from memory, Coffee takes place from pre-season one all the way up to Children of Earth, We Always Get Out Alive and Ghost Mission are post-Miracle Day, and Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue is sometimes after Season 2

Thank you very much for this!

ofc!

They don’t all take place in those spots chronologically (Sargasso is during Season 6, and Iceberg is pre-season 1 for example), but it’s the simplest explanations of when you can listen

I’m planning to start watching Torchwood for the first time this weekend - is there anything I should know going in? Any particularly good episodes or ones to avoid?

Not really, just jump in from episode one and see what you think!

We’re currently going through Torchwood Season 1 in Television > TV Club, so if you want to see other’s thoughts and share your own, please do!

(there’s some episodes that are less good, but often required for plot development, and even if not, it’s always fun to talk about that sor of thing with others)

Just keep in mind that it’s going to be a very mixed bag at the beginning and that there is MUCH better stuff coming, some of the best stuff in Doctor Who honestly. The first time I watched season 1 I skipped all the ‘bad’ episodes and I can say that I enjoyed it much more when I went back and watched it all the way through!

I’d say do what I’m doing and watch from the beginning!

I’m not saying you’ll like the show, because I can’t say what other people’s opinions will be, but it is an enjoyable experience!

Thanks all - I had heard it was a bit up-and-down to start with. I’ll try and watch every episode and see how I get on. I’ll make sure to share my thoughts in TV club as well!

Just remember, your opinion of Cyberwoman will colour my opinion of you forever! /lh

So I’m currently relistening to the Big Finish audio dramas of Torchwood in release order and it is so good! I think that the first 12 episodes are my favorite era of the monthlies.
I like how the Committee is handled in the first five episodes: their introduction, the consequences, their enemies, their spreading with enablers and a revelation. It’s very great to develop them without putting them in every release.
Regarding the first six, I’d say each one is very iconic, even Uncanny Valley. But I like Day One, so… Yeah I can have a good moment with the worst episodes.

Onto S2 of Torchwood TV, almost finished.
It’s really picked up in terms of consistency and not trying too hard to adult doctor who, which were my main issues with S1
The three episode arc of Owen’s living dead state
Martha!
Really enjoying it so far, i think by next week i’ll be on Children of Earth!

Do we ever learn what invaded the Boeshane Penninsula and killed Jack’s father? From the brief description (“The most horrible creatures you could possibly imagine. Their howls travelled before them.”), it almost sounds like Daleks.

Season 2 is really good i’d say maybe 1 or 2 duds but overall great

I haven’t listened to any BF so I can’t say for sure there, but I love that the TV series kept it ambiguous. I remember being so excited at the time to see glimpses of Jack’s childhood, and of the Boeshane Peninsula.

I don’t like to imagine the creatures being Daleks – that sounds boring to me. In my head, they’re vampiric sort of creatures, or unknowable entities swooping across the Peninsula. But I love that they’re an unknown, like the Enemy™.
