Everything Changes - A Torchwood Thread

Lost Souls is fun if you want Martha or to hear about the team right after S2
Asylum is fun for Andy’s development
The Dead Line is interesting being an adaptation of a story that never got made
The Devil and Miss Carew
Submission is interesting for Ianto backstory

I’ve moved the BBC Audio discussion over to this thread because was getting a bit off topic for the TW1 thread

No one would’ve noticed other than us :disappointed:

Also while we’re on the topic of BBC Audio Torchwood

  • Hidden is fine, a bit weird in places, but fine
  • Everyone Says Hello has a genuinely terrifying premise that I’ve stolen used to great effect in my own TTRPG games
  • In The Shadows has some fun stuff for Jack/Ianto, and I think the villain is interesting
  • The Sin Eaters has a pretty fun mystery and is a super fun romp at times
  • Department X does a good job showing how low on resources the team is with two people gone, has some pretty horrific elements, some great history for Torchwood, and introduces a really fun ‘anti-torchwood’ that I’m surprised Goss has never used again since
  • Ghost Train is the best Rhys focused story I’ve listened to
  • Army of One is interesing being immidiately post miracle day
  • Fallout does some great stuff for Andy’s development, I think it and Cadoc Point fill in the gap between Season 4 and 5 perfectly
  • Red Skies
  • Mr Invincible

I’m going to listen to House of the Dead today!!

Okay I listened to it!

The first half is pretty run-of-the-mill, it doesn’t help that I’m not a huge fan of the use of “ghosts” in the Whoniverse.

But then the last ~15 minutes are really, really good. I gave it 4/5.

But this has left me with questions!

Spoilery questions

Please don’t answer if they are resolved later (although I have no idea how they’d be resolved in Torchwood One because that’s set earlier than this?)

Maybe the Torchwood One reference you made has to do with Ianto’s father?

But… erm… the rift was closed? And according to the wiki, this is why Jack leaves, and there is no mention of rift activity in Miracle Day.

So why is the rift open again in The Story Continues?

I can’t believe they made such a huge plot change in a radio play, they must have known the show wasn’t coming back?

HotD aired the day before Miracle Day began, in 2011. In TSC I believe there is a small reference to the rift re-opening and the team isn’t sure why, but it is acknowledged that Ianto closed it. It’s also referenced in More Than This by Gwen. And I suggested you listen to it because a lot of the themes in Torchwood One and especially when you get to the 2024 stuff is made as a sequel-prequel to HoTD. And as Tommy becomes a more significant character, there are more themes that get explored too. Imo Blind Summit (written by GDL) is where he first started exploring Ianto in this retroactive way and he does like to link things back to prior events in his stories, one of them being HoTD

My series 1 rankings.

I think I like Torchwood.

I’m not calling myself a fan yet though, as I haven’t experienced enough TW stories.

But as I’ve finished series 1…

Anyone have any EU recs?

I’d say finish up to season 3, and 4 if you want, then ask for EU stuff–

Unless you’re absolutely desperate

There are some stories set during S1 though, could maybe pick them up from BF. But honestly. S5,6,7 are just incredible. BF >>> TV torchwood

Here’s my tier list!

Doing this reminded me that I’m… not the biggest fan of Series 1. (I can’t be the only person who thinks Countrycide is pretty bland…)

But Out of Time is gorgeous, and I love an awful lot of series 2 and 3. And the audios are just… chef’s kiss!

Fall to Earth! Also Broken, Moving Target and all of Billis Manger’s stories. I can’t remember if The Last Beacon is set in s1 or s2 but that one’s a delight!

Just been thinking about a few things, mainly in regards to the audio side of Torchwood that’s kept this corner of the Whoniverse going for so long, but what sort of things would people like to see in the Torchwood Monthly Range at Big Finish? Any villains, pair-ups, general story ideas, etc?

I’d personally love a story between Graham and Ace, though naturally you’d have to throw in Colchester too for the actual Torchwood element! I know getting Bradley Walsh in sounds like wishful thinking, but a person can dream. :broken_heart:

Honestly I really just want some TSC characters that aren’t Colchester to get time to shine in the monthly range. Even a solo Colchester would be nice.

I’d love a solo Colchester story, or maybe one with both himself and Colin.

So I’ve hit a problem.

I just can’t get through Sleeper.

I don’t know what it is, but I’m just unable to watch it.

I’ll try and put it on, but then I’ll change it after a couple of minutes.

What do I do?
