God bless The Lost Stories, my favourite range

Considering Kate has met the Silurians and Sea Devils on audio, quite a good series too, I’ll be quite disappointed but not surprised if they retcon that in the upcoming tv spin-off. It is, after all, McTighe :sob:

I think that would be a lovely story to reference, or even just vaguely hint at. It’s very easy for them to just hint at previous things, I think. I find it actively obstructing in some cases when the dialogue goes out of its way to mention that this is these characters’ first time meeting things they could very easily have met before.

I think it’s especially lovely because of the fact they could reference the 70s UNIT crew + Jo who also featured in the story. I’d hardly consider it alienating. No less alienating than the countless other off-screen things we get told about.

Doing something as simple as having Kate mention they’ve got previous with the Silurians and Sea Devils, on several occasions. Just something like that.

Literally !! Like RTD having Sutekh and the Doctor agree they’ve only met once before… was that necessary? The Toymaker too!

I think it’s especially odd for RTD to do that, considering how he was the one who made sure Big Finish would still remain a thing while the show’s on air.

Even just TV the doctor had met the Toymaker before TCT, its mentioned in the story. Which i was a bit annoyed was forgotten/ignored

Divided Loyalties my beloved, makes The Toymaker so scary imo

She’s the City of The Saved technically. Maybe they found out at some point? Also, do we really think RTD rewatched/relistened to The Celestial Toymaker before writing the 60th Specials?

I still find it funny that the Divergent universe is supposed to be next to the main one and in Flux they plan to go to the next universe, meaning the secret Time Lord group would end up in a universe with no time that resets itself and has a pre-Revival Who Time War Rassilon that’s still more advanced than them arguably, considering that he’s probably from around the time of the EDA books, at least I like to think so. Also, that means that in Survivors of The Flux, there’s a Faction Paradox thing right next to them too. Did they need to negotiate parking space? How funny.

Even though it was all a complete accident, I like to think the Dalek Void ship from Doomsday used to be nearby too. Sorry for overspoiler-tagging; I’m not sure where people are at in their Who-ing. I made sure it works as a conversation starter without my technical theorising too, though.

He did not, he’s said so

To clarify, I was being rhetorical and opening the stage up for people to be charitable. You can tell he didn’t watch the episode. I actually saw it (the new animated reconstruction, actually) before the specials and it was actually better.

Anyone else still struggling with Shirley not being Hebe? :sob: So many missed opportunities, like in Lucky Day having her and Ruby have a heart-to-heart about their times on the TARDIS.

Not really. It felt weird at first, but I never took to Hebe, and Shirley hasn’t had a lot of time to shine either, so it’s not much of a problem for me.

It’s partly that I liked Hebe and more so that I just feel it’s a missed opportunity.

I do think it’s odd that the actress is playing two different characters. She came out of nowhere (in the DW universe) and was given two different roles to play in two different mediums basically at the same time.

Considering both Shirley and Hebe are friends/colleagues with Mel, I don’t understand why they didn’t make Shirley Hebe. When she first debuted on screen, I thought Shirley was Hebe’s secret agent name or something.

They didn’t do it because the vast majority of viewers don’t know about Hebe. And a majority of the ones who do likely don’t care that it’s Ruth Madeley playing both characters.

Also, the EU is of secondary priority to the BBC. What happens in it doesn’t affect the TV show unless specifically designed to do so. That’s how it’s always been, and that’s how it always will be.

Unfortunately it is the case. Still, I do wanna talk about it because even though we’ve done the conversation to death on Hebe it still is something that is annoying to me. Anyways, I’d rather we kept this positive as we made this thread to avoid discussing semantics such as regulations and rules behind why they don’t appear

Oh yeah, I’m sorry! I didn’t even realise what thread this was! So let’s not delve deeper into that!

All this talk about Hebe actually reminds me that I should listen to her entire run again now that all the sets are out. Maybe I’ll grow to love her more. I remember enjoying her and the performance but not thinking that she was the greatest original companion BF had created.

That’s okay I’ve done the same thing before aha. I just felt a bit overwhelmed with all the 100 reactions like I understand and respect you guys’ views, but this is a place for us to avoid getting told that repeatedly.

IMO she’s by no means one of the best but I liked her nonetheless!
